Any one down to freedive with me in Jersey? im living just off the islands this summer so shoot me a message whenever your down.

my bad dude, i ment the Long Beach Island, Brig, all those places b/c technically they arent connected to the mainland. Where do u usually go?

You should come up to Rhode Island this summer. Alexrom1207 and I are going to be doing lots of diving/spearing on the mainland as well as block island, newport, and jamestown. And of course, we would come down there as well if you can entice us with good diving conditions. Any particular areas on Long Island you could describe? I'm down for taking a weekend to anywhere. It would be just great to get a good group to dive together with. Let me know.

-John

Ill definitly let you know. I usually go in LBI off of the small hetties at high tide of up in barnagate which is about 5 miles north. Ill let you know if I get great conditions down here. You do the same man. thanks. What do u use?

I was never very impressed by conditions on LBI (although I'd be happy to be proven wrong..) I usually go further north, Allenhurst jetty or the inlets (Shark R. or Manasquan)

Ive been there on a few good days, but the jetties are small. I've seen the jetties right by monmouth University, at high tide they look great for spearing. Any one ever go up there>?

I have a house on LBI and have had some decent luck on the jetties, mostly near Harvey Cedars (kinda on the middle of the island) Mostly tautog and black sea bass. i always see stripers but never have the guts to shoot such a big fish. I don't feel like i have the right gear, but I am working on getting it. I have a polespear that i bought last year, so I am still learning new things just about every time i go. Please let me know if anyone has any good spots on the island to go. I am down at LBI almost every weekend and constantly looking for new spots to try from the beach or my kayak. I am always reading about people spearing in the inlet, but I am not so sure I want to dive in there with the boat traffic and the currents worry me more than anything.

hey peeps... im actually takin a relaxing week over in lavallette starting august 15th. anyone gonna be around at that time? is it worth bringin the gear?

Would love to meet you and spear with you, and get drunk in da bar with you! I would probably be willing to come down there and meet you, or you could come up to RI and hang out with us. The only thing I have going on for that date is starting to get ready for my Cancun trip on the 23rd, but that shouldnt be a problem! Hopefully we can work something out. Keep in touch with the Jersey folk, and new england folk alike.

sweet..will def be in touch. So how far is RI from central NJ? hopefully ill be renting a car for the week. so what kind of diving/spearing is there? like those big pylon wood deck piers.. ?

hehehe ya cancun.. well its the sh*t... the nice thing is, if its like my trip there, after the week you are sooo ready to come home. Not like one of those vacations that you hate to leave... you just wanna go home.. (and back of course when rested)

yo LBI Guy, that picture of me is at an inlet near LBI. they're the best when the tide is going out. let me know next time ur down, ill dive with you and give you a little tutorial on inlet diving. make sure you have a pair of strong fins. and yes, you can get striper with a polespear, but it must be sharp as hell...striper have tough exteriors.

Hi. Do any of you know of a club in the Long Island area that freedives? or even a group of people? All of my friends are on SCUBA and I'd like to expand/learn more about the sport and also start pushing my limits a little bit.

Right now my range is only about 35'-40' only because I five alon and not get to practice enough.

Any leads to the right people would be much appreciated.

alrighty..a week to go and all my friends have managed to bail on me >.< ...apparently some stupid proj rev concert a few weeks ago. Anyway, heading to NJ on thurs.. any good dive companies to go with? any spearfishermen/freedivers heading out the week after?

oh nycfreedvr... while im not sure about clubs in LI specifically, i knwo there is the eastcoastfreedivers on yahoo groups. They do some wicked quarries apparently. sadly i missed out when i came home from school.

What are the odds of you coming up to RI to do a few dives? At the very least we could probably meet up halfway or something just to kick it?

Let me know what you think
-John

yeah def sounds like a plan. not sure yet if ill be bringing gear tho so i guess there's either renting or just meeting up and kicking. depends on how free you guys are during teh week. my weekend is booked up for the most part. I was gonna be heading it West Islip for one of the afternoons/evenings
