Hiya, everyone.
I just found this website while searching for some tips on speargun handling, and I have to say the threads on the aforementioned subject that I found here were very helpful! The whole forum seems very friendly. So I decided to take off my boots, light the campfire and settle in!

I'm Pedro, from the Azores. I'm a novice dweller on the sub-aquatic world; I started diving last year and only managed to buy a speargun yesterday. Haven't had the chance to try it out yet (I'm meeting up with some friends soon enough, hopefully they can give me some pointers). Before getting the weapon, I stuck to octopi hunting: they're plentiful in the waters of the Azores. Although I must admit I still have much to learn on that topic.

Well, that's it for my introduction! Feel free to stop by this thread and give out a hearty hello!

Terceira, Pico, Fayal, Santa Maria. Last month came back from Mosteiros (not that great of a hunting...). Will be going to Flores (hopefully) in September. Look up the member named Marginatus (Fernando). He is from Sao Miguel as well and definitely a good hunter - knows how to feed his family! He is a nice guy and will give you some pointers.

Vadim

That's nice! Thanks for the pointers, I'll definitely look for Marginatus.

Mosteiros is a great place for beginners but for those more experienced I wouldn't really recommend it. I mean it's not a bad spot, it's just that the island has much better places to offer. Did you dive close to the shore or did you use a boat?

Unfortunately, no boat! And since I did not have a car, I was hunting mostly there except for a couple of times when Mr. Marginatus took me to the different spots

You found me!

WTF? Mosteiros is one of the best spots on the Island.
You gotta let me know the ones that are better

Went, today, to the old port in Feteiras (No Vadim, I didn't take you there :p)
the sea was great, and got some fish. My buddy got a 3,8kg abrótea (Phycis Physis)

Well it's as good as it gets for shore diving but there's nothing like the wrecks and underwater lava tunnels we have around.

But yeah maybe I didn't express myself properly, hehe. Mosteiros is definitely one of the best places to dive if you're not SCUBA diving or using a boat of some kind.
