Love this site and good day to all. I've just got into FD last summer. Passed the FD PADI and PFI 1 classes in Monterey. I'm old but really miss the ocean - use to live in So Cal. Anyway I have lots to learn but need practice. If anyone is in the Sacramento area I've been tempted to try Lake Natoma - repetitively cold, clear and close but I need a partner.
Again thank you for this wonderful site.

Congratulations!!

Can you compare the two courses, PADI vs. PFI and were day difficult to pass and was one better/more complete than the other?

Hi Diving Nomad - both classes pretty similar in structure but I do have to say I felt the PFI was more rigorous. I'm going to continue the PFI route.

Hardest part for me was the minimum static breath holds - I think it was 3 minutes. Just was strange floating in the pool - for me more relaxed in the ocean. My first dive was 15 m in a little over 2 minutes I think? I still need practice a lot - breath up, relaxing and for me head position - stop looking for the bottom and the oh sh** I'm deep - reflex when you look up to surface at your turn.
