I’m brand new to the sport of free diving, and have really only swam recreationally in the past. My goals moving forward are to become a more proficient and faster swimmer, and increase my breath-holding capabilities.

I’ve heard a variety of things that I can do, such as different types of CO2 tables and different swimming workouts, but since I’m such a beginner, I’m left not really sure what to begin with.

For all the experienced people in the community, my question is: what do I do now to improve my breath-holding ability?

Thanks in advance for the help!

A freediving class is a good way to go. The classes have prerequisites, so peruse those before attending. People consistently report making great progress during those few short days of class, plus the safety training is invaluable.

Thanks for the info on freediving classes! It sounds like a great way to get engaged with others in the community and get better.

You mentioned that classes are a "short few days". Are there more consistent classes for a longer amount of time, or does that mean attending those sessions more frequently?

Most of the classes are about three days long. You can opt to take them again, but many people take what they learn and train with buddies or a diving club. There are also subsequent tiers of professional training to suit your level of expertise.
