Hi everyone. I drove through Mexico 4 months ago, by myself, pulling my boat behind my Jeep to retire in San Pedro, Belize. I am going to purchase a pneumatic spear gun, which I know nothing about. Any information on how they work, the ease of use, best brand for the money, etc. would be helpful. If I can help anyone by answering any questions about Belize or making arrangements for a trip to San Pedro let me know.

Why a pneumo gun? Don't know anything about them, but many of us could give advice on band guns.

My advice to you would be to get a band gun.Stronger, more reliable, and have more punch.

If you know nothing about Pneumatic guns and you are headed for Belize which I would imagine doesn't have a huge spearfishing store, I would follow the others above and buy a good quality Band gun maybe a Riffe or perhaps a Rob Allen or Rabitech.
anyway for all the above guns you can make your own bands and tie your own wishbones/bridles.
The last thing you need in Belize will be to get out in the water and find out that your Pneumatic is leaking air and has scratched the Barrel.
That would be both costly and annoying.
Take it from me I have both types and would not bother using a Pneumatic except in special circumstances.

all of u people are right
band are better then pneu
the first reason is the stregth and distance band guns have
the band guns are quiet!!! afer the shot you can still see fish around
the pneu piston make a lot of noise in the water the fish will move
to a quiet place, that want happend with band gun
suggestion
Rob Alen
immersion
Riffe
no less than 1.00 metters !!!!
:friday cheers mate for the trip enjoy have a nice cuervo shot on me

Jerrythelocke,

I can give all the information that you want with pneumatics, longs, shorts, with Mamba system and without it (these kits allows to shoot with the barrel dry) and also sell you a custom made gun.

I live in Texas and fish with them here in the offshore rigs and with bands too, before I lived in Spain and in Venezuela where we have huge fishes and most of the people use long pneumatics (in the 50”-54” range) and loaded up to 350 psi.
But you are going to a place where will be difficult to find O-rings, shafts with 6 mm threads, slide rings, and so on.

I will recommend you like the rest of the people a band gun with the following characteristics:
Simple, powerful and capable to be fixed with a Swiss Army knife in the middle of nowhere and drunk

There are several in the market Rob Allen, Rabitech, Spetton, Orca Thula, Wong, etc
Just find the one that you feel comfortable with, remember that the best gun it the one that use more comfortable and works for you.

Anyway if you still interested in pneumatics send me a PM and I will be glad to help you.

Cheers

Ivan
