Hi,

I´m thinking of getting my first monofin for dynamic events. I have been looking at Specialfins dolphin and leaderfins sport monofin advanced.

http://www.specialfins.com/eng_products.php?product_id=37
http://www.leaderfins.com/cgi-bin/form.cgi/67eng?id=243&tm=1143609745

They are both in the same price range, but the leaderfins has this wing desing on it. I have tried the dolphin and it felt quite good on my feet, better than I expected. Can anyone of you give any recommendations on these two? Which one would you choose?

WOW six days without a reply why don’t I put u out of your misery Well i can speak for the Specialfins Dolphin. I don’t want to sound like local rep but it is very good. But my feet had to go through a lot of carnage to be able to comfortably use the fin for long periods of time, though this was partly because i got the medium stiffness. Go the stronger heel straps I just don’t trust the standard rubber heel. Swimming with the fin is great,, although I wouldn’t know any different. Well thats my opinion i hope it helps.:)

Thanks PEAT.

Maybe it´s my weird alias name or something.. I dunno.

Well, anyway, I already made the decision to go for the Leaderfins. I got some very positive feedback from leaderfins products from other finnish freedivers.

Also, the price was cheaper than Specialfins dolphin, although, according to their website the price would be the same 129 euros. I asked offers from both companies and the leaderfins was way cheaper. I was a bit surprised to find out that the specialfins prices on their website don´t include the taxes.

I will have the fin delivered next week, so it takes about 7 days to get the fin from the order, so I think it´s quite fast delivery.

Sorry...but the quality for Leaderfins is bad....Its like a day or night...
Thats way i have a fin from SpecialFins.
I recomend the Carbon mono...its just a pice of art...i am telling you that this guys no what they do...

I've both have leaderfins and specialfins monofins, different kinds and a lot of them. I honestly must say that both brands are delivering very good monofins. At the moment I'm more positive for leaderfins because they are more flexible with options and offer a better price/quality ratio.

Of the "standard models" I really don't know...The fins I've seen seem to be pretty much on par with each other.

But IMO Specialfins does not even offer anything that comes even close to the hand made "Professional" fins, such as the Flyer and Hyper. It's kind of pointless to even compare them, they are a totally different class of fins. But they do have fins in the same prize range...Maybe they are not the prettiest fins, but they seem to work...

Yes, I agree totally with Jome! If we're talking high performance models for me it's pretty clear too choose. The Flyer and Hyper monofins from leaderfins are just amazing!

Hello all,

I just got my fin few days ago from leaderfins, and so far I have only had one quick chance to test it in the pool. The first impression is very positive. :inlove The sense of speed is overwhelming when compared to my normal training bi-fins.

Now I will just try to practise my technique to get better use of the fin. :)

I'm very impressed with my Leaderfins Flyer Mono-fin. It's pretty tight on the pocket-fit, but that's just for maximum performance !

SpecialFins dose not offer Hyper, thats true...but as i know Leaderfins is bayeng Hyper fins from Russia them selfs...there is the guy who is makeng the Hyper his name is PIKALJOVA...looks like thay just dealing with hyper.
As i have heard that Specialfins will make for you the flyer the way you like it.:)

Matu,

My name is Ivan Fernandez and I am the representative of Leaderfins for USA and Canada.

I am not trying to tell you if one brand is better than the other just that the Hyper is 100% manufactured by Leaderfins in Estonia.
There are no external manufacturers involved.

Cheers

Ivan

Dear Ivan,

Sorry but Leaderfins is not producing fins Hyper, Matu has closer information about it.
Greetings Jyri

Hi everybody, I believe the really importat it's not who or where are produced. The really important it's if the products are well done and work and obviously the service aftersale.

Mi car are a Japanese car, builded in Andalucia (Spain) and you can buy the the same car in America with other name and produced by General Motors, assembled in Detroit, who care if finally will provide me the same quality and the same support as if was builded for Mr Suzuki in Tokio with the same quality and best service aftersale.

Leaderfins is international company. Some parts of our producing are locating in Lithuanian, in Russia, also in Pikalevo (is a country not a guy). And this is not a secret or somethin to hide. This is the modern way to be competitive and get the best Quality/Price ratio for athletes.
This was of producing line connected with the best and optimum producing process and craftman under supervision.

All of us are glad to ear comments, but I believe no one like to ear if this brand it's bad or not, each one has enough intelligence to decide that based in the experiencie posted in a responsible way. This post will start to be boring if we take the bad way to try to disqualify manufacturers, fortunatly is an isolate opinion.

Best regards, Luis

ps: I'm LeaderFins representative as Ivan but my message will be the same no matter which brand are reproached of poor quality in the irresponsible way was done.

Is it just me or does anyone else think it's rather strange
for someone who has never posted anything before to suddenly to come and say don't buy brand X it's bad buy brand Y. 'Matu' has only posted 3 times in total on DB, and Jyri knows him, hmmm.....

I think it's rather juvenile for people working for companies or their friends to get on forums such as this then start discrediting rival companies.

Wow, Jyri. You exist! rofl

I didn't have a good customer service experience with Specialfins. I know other divers (2 in particular) who didn't either.

I don't have any experience yet with Leaderfins.

Pete

out of my experience 100% leaderfins
better performance and good quality and a customer service !

I have to say that I have had excellent service from Special Fins.

Even when I started to split apart a footpocket on my monofin, long after the warranty was over with, they fixed it for free and even gave me a sweet deal on my new monofin- which is the best I've used to date. :inlove

Jyri helped me out with most of this, but left the company to become a scuba rep halfway through the process, and Martin finished up with me as if it were one seemless transaction. I can't say enough good things about their service!

I even bought, and quickly returned, a monofin that just hurt my feet too much to use, and they gave me full credit for it- which I used to purchase my current favorite fin. I couldn't ask more for a company than that- but I did when I wanted my own, Sporasub, footpockets mounted on one of their monofin blades and they did it for me, no questions asked, and even gave me a discount because I supplied my own footpockets!:)

When I ran my first Freedive-A-Palooza Special Fins even sent me a bunch of their fins for all of us to demo before we bought. It made the event all the more a success as many people where happy to be able to try out so many different types of fins that aren't commonly seen in the States.

I have never had a chance to use a Leaderfin, but maybe if they sent us some demo blades for this summer's event a bunch of us could give them a go and post about it on here- Ivan? ;)

Jon

Hi Jon,

Glad to hear that you had great service from Specialfins.

Hi Jyri,

All the best with your new venture.

Pete
