Hi all,
I am Carl I am stationed in Okinawa probably headed to Hawaii within the next year. I have about 2 years Scuba deep and nitrox certified, I just got my RA 100cm railgun and have went diving a couple times so far. I shot two fish nothing to right home about some little crap fish that tasted pretty bad but I shot them so I attempted to eat them. Looking forward to learning and sharing experiences here. I am looking to go to Austrailia for vacation in June on a dive trip. If there are any Aussies that could give some advice or suggestions that would be cool.

Welcome from Texas! Experience will teach you which fish are best to target when hunting. Good luck, shoot straight and dive safe.

Cheers Carl, nice gun you got yourself. When I started, the most challenging thing was learning which fish were which, then learning how they moved and were best hunted ie: aspetto or from the top, side, underneath.
You'll find good direction from good dudes here, no matter where you end up hunting.

Than you for the welcome. I am originally from Mineral Wells TX. I go with my nieghbor and he has a couple friends we go with here, all have plenty of experience and have been passing on thier knowledge to me, plus I got some fish identifacation cards.

Welcome lilhatchet. Sorry to hear the fish you caught didn't taste so good but glad to hear you shot them to eat. We have a recipes section, perhaps it'd help you find a way to enjoy these fish, or others. There are several professional cooks/chefs active on the forum, as well as many keen amateurs.

Care to share the origin of your moniker, lilhachet? (Presumably, short for Little Hatchet)

Don't have a problem cooking fish just shot a chub I think it's called and I don't think I could have helped how it tasted. As far as the moniker you are right it was given to me by one of my soldiers when I was at Ft Hood and I use it for boards and forums to save me thinking up something.
