New Omer fin for 2009?

Hi folks,

This may be old news, but I just came across the photo below taken this year at an Italian diving show expo.

Does anyone have information on the fins the Omer rep is holding in the background? The sticker mentions it will be called "Sting Raing". Has anyone heard what material the blades of these fins will be made of?

Hmm looks very nice i havent heard anything about it (will have to talk to head office and see whats happening) looks like a slightly different foot pocket aswell? looks like it may be a redesign of the standard ranges eg the runner and competition blades but could be wrong. that big long thing looks like a hard speargun case, any info on that?

Interesting that we did not hear any buzz about those fins, even after they were presented at that that Expo.

I have a feeling that the new omer pneumatic wont be very special. It doesnt seal the water from entering the barrel. It just releases water from the barrel more efficiently than before. Ill probably stick with my dry barrel mamba kit on my asso 115cm.

Don't be such a cynic Harry you're still too young for that. Make no mistake about it it's going to be the best innovation in pneumatic guns since Mares came out with the Cyrano in 93'.

As a pneumatic aficionado you should expand your horizons and consider one, a pneumatic fanatic will really appreciate its technical features. Dry sealing the inner chamber of a pneumatic as with the Mamba system is not the only way to increase its power. Just ask all the Miami/S.Florida cuban divers for whom pneumatics are predominantly still the weapon of choice.

There is an anticipation on the October issue of italian paper magazine "Pesca in Apnea". But I haven't bought it yet this month (the mag costs Euro 5,30!!!).
If I can find any left I'll buy it (the mag, not the fins) and report some more. Seems anyway unlikely the new Omer Sting Ray fins will be available anytime before 2009...

Hi folks,

I just came across this on an Italian forum... details and photos of the new Omer Stingray fins are included on the 2009 Omer catalog (more on the Airbalete as well):

Here is a direct quote from the catalog:

"These new fixed blade fins are characterized by their thermo rubber foot-pocket and for the angle between foot-pocket and blade being 22 degrees (compared to traditional 15/17 degree). The use of thermo rubber of two different stiffness compounds increases comfort over normal foot-pockets. The 22 degree angle is the result of trying to optimize the power of the push through the water relative to effort. The blades are produced in a low modular polypropylene. Available in sizes 41-42,43-44,45-46,47-48."

The new footpocket sounds interesting... the 22 degree angle is similar to the angle of the C4 Mustang and the Mares Razor footpockets. The blades are still plastic.

For now at least I will stick to my C4 Mustangs.

Seen on the catalogue. They look quite similar to the Mares Razor Pro.
I bet that some composite blades too (carbon and/or fiberglass) for the Omer Stingray footpocket will be announced pretty soon: the production costs for a new foot pocket are very high, so we can be sure that Omer hasn't made the Stingray footpocket for a plastic blade only (stress goes on the word "only").

It may be a consern, that foot pocket looks like the cressi pocket, too soft for my taste.

Hi Spaghetti,

I hope you are... that would be sweet. I like the angle of my C4 Mustang and it would be nice to have another similarly angled footpocket with decent blades.
