Hi all,

I tried the new Omer Memo Zero mask at DEMA. Unbelievable! Incredible field of view with tiny air volume, and it seemed to fit well. Glass lenses. Available March 2012.

Thanks for the review, Eric! Possibly a threat to my Sphera collection.

Looking forward to trying that one. :) Do you have images available?

Sounds great! How does it compare to say a micromask in terms of field of vision?

I believe that with this mask the Universe will be my bitch. No question.

It looks like a Marvel superhero's mask.

I may have to make a hydrodynamic cape.

I wonder if the strap is beefier than a Cressi Minima? I really like the fit of the Minima to my face, but the strap is quite weak.

Thanks Eric for the info! Now the waiting game begins...

I had a Minima and agree that the strap was weak. But I never worry about straps. All my scuba masks and the Minima have black quarter-inch surgical hose for straps. No need to adjust. Just figure what you need to wear it comfy and feed it thru the strap retainers and zip tie it. Lasts forever no adjustment and no leaks. The hose is hard to find in black. I get mine at 4fishin.com in Colorado. They have all kinds of thicknesses and colors besides black very reasonable. I quit wearing conventional scuba mask straps on all my masks due to ease of breakage and exclusively use surgical hose. My first mask has the same hose on if going on two years. I keep the straps that come with my masks in my save a dive kit to give away to divers that break the straps on their masks and insist on using the same. Hope this helps.

BilgeRat, thanks for that advice. I had not thought of that remedy, and it certainly sounds like it would work well. I think I will be doing that! thanks for the link to the supplier too. I can have other uses for that as well-tubing makes good light-duty resistance exercise that some of my patients could use.

I wear my masks quite loose - so I really don't go through straps. If I'm doing a monofin sprint or something and am worried the mask will leak I just give it a little negative pressure.

I have a mustache, and even if I keep it trimmed quite short, it still makes all my masks leak unless I keep them pretty tight. Cannot quite bring myself to shave it all off as I've had one my whole adult life :) So, even if I start out with some negative pressure the mask always leaks it down unless it is tight.

One of my dive buddies has that problem. His mask is always half full of water - until he gets enough snot going to seal the mustache. (yech)

Don't know if this is a stupid idea but have you tried using a bit of vaseline or similar on your moustache? Might seal better...

I did get some type of mask seal from one vendor; it is kind of like lip balm but softer. It works, but makes a bit of a mess after and doesn't wash off without soap. So, I only use it when it matters the most, like spearfishing. Not a perfect solution but it does help! thanks!
sorry about the threadjack, too...

Well I guess we need something else to talk about while we wait for the Zero to come out - anyone knows when is it due to hit the market by the way?

Really hope it seals well on narrow faces...

Well, while we are waiting, I had some beuchat fins not quite as long as the free dive ones but longer than my jetfins with the adjustable straps. The pins holding the locking end broke on one fin and I couldnt find anything to fix it with while on Catalina Island. I fixed it with a wire. I left the fins in a storage box and remembered them after rigging my first mask with the surgical hose. I thought, "Hey! Let's fix the fins with this stuff too!" So I removed the mounting hardware and did the same on the fins and doubled the straps. I repeated the same with an extra pair of Jetfins. My main use ones have spring straps which I love. The fins came out perfect. Now I have re-modified one mask with plastic snap buckles so I can snap them on a surgical hose ring around my neck hanging out of the way. On the same ring around my neck I have a small LED flash light for dark crevices and if I need better light position, I move the ring to my head above the mask and now I have better lighting for lobstering. By the way, the reason I included the website for the surgical hose is because it took me forever to find anyone whom might supply in CA. A lot of manufacturers but no retailers and Home Depot and Lowes carries only the tan colored hose that breaks easy. ........um......is the zero out yet?:wave
