last night at the pool me and perry15 thought it was about time to try and knock off some PB's
we waited till the pool was closed (kinda know the life guards now)
there was me my buddy and about 7 life guards all looking out for me, it was a nice feeling. the guards were going to be on the pool deck spread out and my buddy was going to be chasing me in the water. i had a great safe net set up and i briefed all the guards on what to do in case of a blackout or samba.
after all the set up I got in the water and took about 5 minuets of breathing to calm down and get relaxed. when the time felt right i took a deep breath and went for it. my old PB was 72 meters, I didn't want to think about it to much as I pushed off. I tend to over think things and it works against me, but for the first 25 meters i found it was hard to keep my eyes open i was so relaxed. at the turn i still felt really good and i was focusing on a nice smooth kick, when i thought i was about half way back I looked up and i was right at the wall. I touch the wall and turned as I think this is how i used to feel when i was doing my first turn so i must be getting better. i pushed off and got my kick locked in right away. about half way there i said to my self "just get to the wall and you will beat your PB by 3 meters". at this point I'm sure my nice smooth kick was getting a bit fast, and i really wanted to just give up. but after thinking all that i was already at the wall !!!!!!!!!! i touched the wall and i had it 75 meters woot woot. now this is where having a good buddy makes you better. when ever I get to the wall at the end of a dive I spin around and have a look, so as soon as I spin I see my buddy right there with a big smile on his face. I don't know why but it felt really good to know he was right on me. so with out stopping I pushed off the wall and gave it some hard kicks to try and get the max PB I could. came up about 9 meters later made sure i was right by the wall and shot out of the pool on to the deck as i was exhaling, closed my eyes and took a sweet sweet breath of air then i herd some one say "are you ok" I opened my eyes to a sea of red and white all 7 life guards were around me. again this was i nice feeling!!
after about 20 seconds of deck time i got up to some high fives and a big smile from my buddy. i have been in many sports at very high levels but i have never felt so at peace with myself.
i know my 84 meters is nothing to a lot of people but i don't care its a lot to me.
now things to work on:
1: at the end of my 3rd lap my kick broke down to more of rushed panic then i nice smooth calm kick so next time i need to make sure this doesn't happen!
2: on the start of my 4th lap i was not thinking about a nice calm smooth kick i was thinking about just getting 5 or ten more meters.
3: right after i pushed for my 4th lap i used my arms like breast stroke for the last pull and after my arms were not in front of me any more that was it.
if i stay calm and keep a nice smooth kick and leave my arms out front i have no doubt that i can reach my goal of 100 meters soon.
if you have anything to add please do. hints tips what i did wrong anything you can give me to work on
so far the help has been great
and last but not lest I would like to say thanks to perry15 for being a great buddy!!!! i couldn't have done it with out you
