Well i am very pleased with myself after a faux competition on Tuesday. I made an improvement on my pb of 66 metres and went that little bit further and made 71 metres (with fins) and felt absolutely fine after. Yay me

Nice work Aquagurl....it looks like you are ready for that Taupo comp!

Congrats AG! I just made it up to 55m myself, so I share your excitement. I'm getting a pair of real freediving fins in the near future, so hopefully I'll join you at ~70m soon :)

Thankyou all of you for your responses. I find it really encouraging to receive such positive comments on here. Am really gonna try my hardest to make that Taupo comp and am really rapped with my new classic stereo fins. I've been on a personal high from progressing so much - it's a great feeling of accomplishment. Am looking for a couple of those paradisia nose clips (or the like) for me and my mate so if anyone knows of any available here in NZ that would be a great help. Still haven't done a static yet so that will be the next test of my abilities.

Great work Aquagirl.

Sorry that I couldn't make the PB attempt night to see your dynamic - great swim though. Do come along to static training sometime - good way to learn your limits, feel your body's responding to contractions etc - and learn to relax through them.

Hope we see you in Taupo for Apnea @ Altitude at the end of March - Kathryn needs some pushing!

Going well all right Aqua-G!,
Hitting that 70m+ mark, awesome.
You have to make a comp for sure.

Well done Aquagurl, that rush you are feeling (from your accomplishment) will keep happening everytime you reach that next goal. Sensational!!

About that nose clip - look up www.freedive.co.nz, patrick makes his own which are much more comfortable than the paradiscia.

Look forward to meeting you at Apnea @ Altitude 07.

Hi guys,

I'd like to join in the thread. I'm a newbie and only recently just found a buddy to train with in Singapore. It's such an unknown sports here... bizarre!

Aquagurl, can you share how you trained to reach 71m? You seem to be making very rapid improvements. Btw is 71m dynamic or CW? I've never tried any CW attempts but I'm doing 50m dynamic laps as training at the moment. I'd like to push that further, now that I have a spotter and buddy.

Thanks for any tips you can offer!

Hi Adelene, Welcome to DB. Thanks for your post. I train 3 times per week which consists of 2 times per week with my buddy at the local pool in our lunch breaks from work and this training focuses on dynamics, working on turns etc while the other session per week is with a freediving club which train in statics, dynamics and constant weight. I have had two statics recently in which my best there was 3 mins 50 secs. My 71 metres was dynamics with fins - haven't mastered the art of dynamics without fins just yet but will work on that one. Have only ventured out into the sea twice now and the 1st time i went down to about 12 metres but this wasn't following a line as it wasn't the perfect weather for doing that on the day so we were just mucking about and of course following the one up one down routine for safety. Once i realised i could do a dynamic of further than 25 metres i became more hooked as it is not just a sport as such but a whole learning about your body and what it is capable of and also learning how to respond and relax through the challenges that are placed upon it. I guess i just try and push myself that extra bit because i now know that i am capable of more than i ever thought i was - yes i do give up too easily on some days because it does get hard. If you go into a training session with the right mindset and positiveness then a whole new world opens up especially with statics because that is a total relaxation mind thing and you have to not focus on time but instead of whatever it is that makes you happy, content or just try and clear your mind and think of nothing like as in meditation, helps to have a mantra to focus on. O2 and CO2 tables done dry are also a help to some. I hope i have answered you the way you wanted.

Happy training - Be safe - Enjoy

Hi Aquagurl,

You're totally right about the sport being addictive! Earlier on when I was doing training in the pool, I found a new, more relaxed state of finning and could push almost another 10m. It was a new sensation. I guess a lot of it really comes from trial and error and learning to understnad your body. What I find hard to learn at the moment is how to make the turn properly. I waste a lot of time and energy trying to make the turn. How did you learn to do it properly? I should probably try to watch some video clips. And how do you measure distance? In the pool I swim in, there are no calibrations of distance. When I do dives in the sea, I wear a dive computer which tells me the depth I go to, but not sure how to measure distance in the pool.

Happy training, and keep having fun in the wateR! :)

Well ADELENEYNCH, you could buy a 26 or 51m meter rope, measure it and put some knots or other markings at regular interfalls. Two bricks will help to hold it along the side the pool.

Though it is very nice and rewarding to take note of progress, keep the ego in check and don't loose youselves to much in numeric distances, you're much more than the numbers you may reach.

Love, Peace and water!

Kars

Hi Kars, thanks for the tip! Yeah, I'm conscious of becoming obsessed with the numbers so most days, I dont bother with distance and depth and just dive for the fun of it. :)
