Having tried the easy version of gunbuilding ,I figured it was time to go for the more advanced type. Being a bit of a chicken I havent posted any pictures until it was finished...
It got a 93 cm bandpull,it was suposed to be 110,but my router decided to start acting up just as I was making ready for fitting the "head/mussle".(Im in the market for a decent router that has a LOCKING chocke and is easily adjustable, suggestions?)
I used a phatos trigger mech, and I must say its not really suitable for diy harpoons,it was a bitch to fit with all its funny angles! But low building wich was what I was after since I wanted a slim gun.Ive used teak scavenged from a discarded door I found in a dumpster and oak laminated with epoxy.
For the triggerguard and other shiny bits Ive used bikeweel spokes. It is at the moment fitted with one 18mm elastic, but I was originally intending on two 16mm.I havent been able to try it in the water yet due to a flu thats lingering, but hopefully Ill be able to get wet next week.

Very cool, love the carving. Just make sure you touch up any deep scratches you might get with use. Oak really likes to move when it gets wet. Very nice to see something different.

Cheers, Don

Wow!! Very nice gun. I really like the wood work, it reminds to viking boats.
Well done

Thanks! Ive soaked it in a mix of boiled linseed oil, woodtar and something called owatrol wich we use on wooden boats here,Im expecting to have to "tuch up" the oil coating ocationally.

pretty cool.
can you take some pics of the trigger mech and the push rod and remote trigger and stuff?
i'm interested to see how you did those.
is that handle glued in and then shaped in place? or screwed on?
nice work !
what are dimensions of the barrel ?

Thanks, the handle is tapped and glued in after shaping, just a little bit of fine tuning was needed.Ive only used a plane and a sharp carving knife on this project, as I feel you get a smoother more waterproof surface on the wood that way.

Eh,forgot the pictures...

Ive made the trigger and pushrod out of 3mm plexiglass, tried first to use stainless steel, but it proved a bit fiddly to shape. Then I tried making a laminate out of wood, but I figured it could be prone to swelling and jamming the mechanism.
The dimentions of the barrel is aproximately 30mm by 35mm.

What a ridiculous looking gun... and I mean that in a good way!!!!

You'd better go and slay some beasts from the deep with that!

Have tried it in the water now,but Im having abit of teething problems ,anybody know if the phatos triggermech is suposed to work with a standard euro spear? cant seem to get it to hold on to the spear under tension.:duh using a 6mm euro at the moment..

With some of these units you need to pull back the trigger when you insert the spear - 6mm is very thin!
You might like to try a 6.5 or 7mm?

Found the problem;the pushrod was 1mm too long Im using a seatec spear from my first gun that is not much used.I need one with sharkfins on it (busted my wishbone again today). Its just that shipping spears to Norway is expensive and bying them here is worse...

Wow.. . . I hadn't shecked the board in a while.. . . That is a great build. Really nice lines.

Veldig bra.
If your new spear can wait till next summer, i can help you. Will visit my parents in Mandal, so i can bring some spears ans stuff with me.

Ha de bra
