Hello Deeperblue users!

Well i couldn't resist this bargain from scubastore, so i purchased another gun i really don't need. But i think this may well become my number 2 gun very quickly. Good looking gun, and a very good price.
Although it is called a 100 it is actually 107cm long, and the spear is 102cm(with tang) long. The Gun proved easy to load (for rigging) and the dry barrel gasket doesn't effect resistance hardly when loading (even with tang present). For now i will test as is (when conditions clear up a bit), but i think some mods are in order if the gun performs well enough for me to keep it. I will post a vid when i manage to get out next.

First impressions

Handle and 7mm SS spears butt and devoto style slider (can hold 2mm mono if needed).

Tiny Muzzle (3cm shorter than tovarich) and spear flopper (a weak non-locking flopper, may need changing)

Logos are not stickers but powdercoated/painted on (gives a quality feel)

Asso 90(tovarich) vs Vuoto 100. There is 13cm difference in barrel lengths. The asso has a 110cm spear, i will look for a 110 or 115 spare spear for the vuoto.

Rigged and ready. (used x3 wraps of 1.5mm 250lb mono and a seacsub bungie which i hope will not tangle the mono.)

Many thanks for this first review. The gun looks great - your pictures are a lot better than the ones at Scubastore.

I like that the spear is hardened SS and a little short. I'm looking forward to hear how the gun and spear are balanced in water.
I use the same type of spear from Salvimar in my Sten 11's. No problems with the flopper for me here in Denmark (fish up to 20 lbs).

Any changes in the "Vuoto-Air" instruction manual compared to the one for the "Vintair - Vintair Plus"? The latter can be found on-line as a pdf file from the Salvimar web-site, but they have not added the version for the "Vuoto-Air". You now have both guns, so I assume that you have both instruction manuals.

Hi Pete,

The manual i received with the vuoto was the same as the vintair, nothing in the manual about the vuoto.

Hi Pete,

The manual i received with the vuoto was the same as the vintair, nothing in the manual about the vuoto.

It seems odd that they have not added a note about the muzzle, even if it was just an addendum printed on a separate sheet of paper and enclosed in the "Vintair" booklet. The fact that you can unscrew the muzzle's forward section without depressurizing the gun (in order to examine or replace the muzzle vacuum seal) would be worth mentioning, especially as that action would be prohibited on most other pneumatic spearguns.

I note that "made & designed in Italy" is prominently displayed on the tank.

I took the gun out for a dive today, i did re-rig the gun with a stainless steel slider and thicker 1.8mono as i wanted to target kingfish and i felt the standard slider would not be up to it. I must say i was hugely impressed!!, super easy to load and shot hard all the way to the end of the triple wraps and pulled the bungie hard. I shot a nice kingfish(15lb) and the gun had no issues putting the spear through that fish. I was also shooting bait for burly and the gun didnt miss. Note also this gun is a sinker (when loaded). Some of my other guns have been floaters or neutrally buoyant. I took my camera out and thought i had filmed all the action until i found there was no SD card when i got home. I also poped an eardrum fighting the kingfish.

So you guys might have to wait a while before i can put up some more videos.

Gazz, I think using a stainless steel slider with vacuum barrel kit is not a good idea, unless it is with hydro damper design. After some time shaft tail step will be hammered and might damage the seal.

Hi Tromic,

Thanks for the advice, So you think the extra weight of the slider will effect the tang where it hits the slide ring?
Could a o-ring between the slider and "slide ring" be a possible solution?

You could consider using a slide ring (that fits inside the recess in the muzzle front) in a softer material such as aluminium or POM.
You might have to change this from time to time.

Another solution could be a slider in titanium - I have seen these sold in Russia - but I don't know if it's possible to buy them if you live outside of Russia. I would like one myself, so I could try to get some for both of us.

Have you ever experienced that the plastic sliders not were strong enough? - I'm not sure, but I think the shooting line is the weakest point - unless you want to use a steel cable.

O-ring would not help with heavy stainless steel slider. Aluminum or Titanium would be better, possibly with additional Poly Urethane shock damper.

Interesting thoughts Tromic,

Perhaps i should look at putting together a titanium slider, is it hard to machine(any harder than stainless)?
Where did you get the poly shock damper?

PS very interesting line release could you share more info about this?

LR is same idea like this:
http://forums.deeperblue.com/threads/line-release.90707/#post-844146
but different position.

PU is from ebay 4 mm ID, 6 mm OD.

Titanium is similar to stainless,... but is lighter.

Thanks Tromic.

Titanium is crazy expensive. So i might give that a miss.
I will keep using the current setup and see how long it takes before i need to replace the tang or slider. I feel on this gun these items will need regular replacing regardless of sliders.

After my last dive the tangs edges is smoothed/rounded over and there is a impression on the silde ring. perhaps i will keep a nude shaft spare(in my dive bag) in case one fails.

I like your new sliders tromic they are the best plastic slider i have seen.

Gazz;

Was the gun supplied with any spare vacuum seals/cuffs?

You could put an aluminium stop ring on the shaft to replace the stainless steel ring if you swap the plastic line slide for a stainless steel one. The spear tail stop diameter shoulder will then hammer the aluminum ring rather than create a sharp edge on its own forward leading edge which could progressively damage the rubber vacuum seal. The plastic line slide should be OK, don't just assume that because it is plastic that it is weak. Remember that the other end of the shooting line attaches to the plastic nose cone by a hole incorporated in the front line wrap hook. Alloy stop rings are corroded by the presence of stainless steel, so best to remove them from the shaft after clean up. I always dismantle my shafts for storage between dives, but as I use detachable speartips I don't have to unscrew the spear tail to remove the line slide and stop ring. If you use an alloy stop ring then expect to replace it regularly as it can start to jam on the spear tail as its bore gets hammered during the shots.

Thanks for info Gazz.

I checked on the titanium sliders. You can bye them from opendive.ru if you decide to go titanium:
http://www.opendive.ru/catalog/186/3311/

You can order from their website and pay with credit card - they ship international with the exception of spearguns - would have loved to try a Zelinka - but no go from Russia on that one...

They have some quite interesting stuff. I bought some titanium sliders and one of the Pelengas magnetic line release systems that can be mounted in the air inlet valve at the back of the gun: http://www.opendive.ru/catalog/208/3843/
It's nice if you use a reel, like the shooting line to run along the barrel - or simply want a tiny longer line without making a wrap more.

They also have some wicked looking spear tips for you Peter..

Thanks Jegwan,

Please let me know how things went with shipping and delivery of your slider. It looks amazing but i might struggle to place and order considering the site is in russian.

so far the SS slider has been fine i have been checking the tang and slide ring after each dive.

It went fine. I have already received the stuff I ordered. The finish on the titanium slider is a little rough. Needs a polish..

I used Google translate. I had to contact them in order to understand which shipping option I should chose - got a reply the same day
The shipping was fast, signed for and not cheap.

I have attached some pics of the magnetic line release

Which manufacturers now produce dry barrels? I've been out of using airguns for a while but I like what I see so far.
