Hello,

i would like to buy a new spear gun but i am really not sure what i am looking for. First I manly go Fishing in Europe in depths from 5 to 20 meters. I am not hunting any pelagic species, Reef Fish and the everything that comes across. I don´t live at the ocean, but i spend 3-4 months abroad every year so i have some time in the Water.
Now i am looking for an all round spear gun which i can use in most conditions and for most types of hunting because i don´t want to carry more than one gun with me.

I would like to know if it would make sense to use a double rubber gun with a reel even though i am really just an average spearo. I Would like to have some more reach than i have now with a Beuchat gun 90 cm Barrel and a 18 mm rubber i´am not 100% sure about the rubber though.

I´d like something that would enable me to shoot something bigger if i come across something without losing my gear in a cave or so (reel?).

I would spend something between 100-300€ not much more though.

Now i know some people will think i should figure out which gun i need on my own, and i´ve tried that and i find it quite hard to figure out what would be right. So you don´t need to tell me i shall find out on my own:) if you have got something in mind or had a similar problem at some stage let me know i´ll be glad.

cheers Nik

Maybe a 110cm double banded rail / euro gun, or a 90cm roller gun (although I don't know of any inexpensive ones)?

What's your visibility like?

For clear caribbean type waters, sometimes a 120cm is considered a "reef gun", although it wouldn't work for holed up fish.

Perhaps a 110cm Mako ETR and also carry a 6' or even 8' foldspear on your hip for holed up fish and poor visibility around a reef??

The foldspear can also be handy to get a second / kill shot landed without needing a second gun... And to fend off large predators / overly inquisitive toothy critters.

Seeing as you are travelling, have you considered a Riffe Euro Travel gun? http://speargun.com/products/euro-travel-series/

They break up into 2 halves so traveling with it will be much easier than a similar lenght solid gun. They come in 81, 102 and 117cm lengths. For me the 102cm will be the most versatile length, long enough to hunt reasonably sized fish yet just about short enough to scratch around in caves.

I don't own one so can't comment first-hand how they perform, but knowing that Riffe produces some really great spearguns I'm sure this one will also perform really well.

I own a Riffe Euro 90T (117). My daughter has the 75T (102). They are used both at our home sea in Denmark and when we travel the world.
It's a great gun. I will recommend that you choose the long one (117/90) - that's a good all-round size in Europe. I don't think that the reach of the 75T is better than on the single band 90.
The Riffe travel gun and spears are expensive.

A medium pneumatic 70-90 with dry barrel could also be considered...

Reel: I would attach my gun to the float line instead of using reel. That's my preference.

you may want to consider a sporasub one. perfect all round gun and comes standard with reel. has come down quite a bit in price and is super accurate, tough love at first but now it's my go to gun

I have a JBL Travel Magnum combo for traveling reasons, it is quite good (I know everyone hates JBL bit this gun is high quality), it can be used as a 102cm and 43cm gun, it come with a soft case and fits in my normal luggage. The downside is that it is expensive, so are extra spears, and it is a pain to get them in europe.

Your current speargun sounds pretty much what I was going to suggest :)
Personally, I wouldn't bother with double bands esp. if you are travelling light.
