Hi everyone,i just got started spearfishing in my home province of saskatchewan late last summer and sure like it.I need help finding lakes in summer that are clear enough to see 12 feet or more and i live in prince albert.Shot some pike last summer and was a blast.Any info on someplace to try would be appreciated and i would like to go after pike walley perch and some trout. Also getting a good full wetsuit this spring for cold water spring and fall can be 53-63 degrees f.Dont want to go more that 405 mm so i can dive down without tanks to about 15 feet with minimal weight. Thanks again everyone and have a good christmas..SpearoNut1956.

Welcome fellow Canadian!

A 5mm suit should work and in Toronto we buy a lot of custom suits from Aqualandwetsuits.com

A brown / green camo suit, or even grey should make you damn near invisible in shallow fresh waters.

Not sure if trout are legal in Sask... and spearing perch would require a PRECISE shot to even hit them... Let alone not destroy half the fillet with the spear hole! LOL.

What size gun are you using? 75mm-90mm?

I've yet to go walleye hunting, but really look forward to the chance mid-summer, when it's warm and they go deeper to "points" and structure at -30' to -45'.

I've line-fished / jigged for them this way but it would be awesome to be down there.

I was fishing from a boat with my cousin-in-law around a channel marker and he snagged his line and snapped off the lure. I jumped in the water (always take a mask with me on a boat!) and not only retrieved the lure (and a few extras), but I was able to see how the bass were hanging out, what direction they were facing and how to best cast to them to get a strike.

It worked! :D

Even though we can't spearfish in Ontario, it doesn't mean that we can't scout out our prospective hotspots to gain an advantage while line-fishing. LOL

Btw - in freshwater, I need approx 18 lbs just to be neutral at -5m with a 5mm suit

Hi there Apneaddict and thankyou for the warm welcome.Yes trout are legal here in sask, and i shoot a Jbl Exporer Lightning 24.This gun has been awsome for the kind of spearing we do here. Its 50" long overall 127 mm.Last summer i went for pike and shot 5 in about 1 hour the biggest was only about 4 lbds but at 13 feet the spear loaded at the strongest band setting shot right through the pikes head the bonny part of the head to.All other shots were same depth and the band cocked at its light setting shot right through the body every time. Will be all the gun i need here in sask.I was a fishing pro here for many years did the tournaments and seminars as well so have a good knowledge of all fish behavior.I also have been a flyfishierman for most of my life, fly tyeing rod building net makeing and arrow makeing as well.Love it all. Will look into the suit you mentioned and again ty for your message and i look forward to more in the future.Yours truely SpearoNut1956.
