Here in Lithuania, 2 magicians, brother and sister, announced they will set a new static apnea world record, with breathing oxygen before the attempt. They stated, they will attempt this record both at the same time (brother and sister), and are planning to hit 14 min mark.

Yesterday the show was shown on TV. The male did 15:58.

You can find video here:

DELFI - Magas A.Gaièiûnas pagerino pasaulio rekordà (video)

The main interesting aspects were:

- there is no oficial report about this _world_record_atempt, and still uknown, if any official judges were present

- you could not clearly see the couple from underwater. Although the camera man was there.

- the "Safety team" were 2 scuba divers, already seen participating in this TV before, and advertising their diving club.

- the participants were tied with chains. I.e. if it would have been real attempt, what about safety issues ? The guy BO's, and then safety team tries to unlock the chains.. ?

- Both participants were shown in serious SAMBA, or maybe, something with o2 toxity related, after their attempt. They were evacuated to nearest hospital.

There is a reason they call themselves "magicians" and they performed a show, nothing else.

from what i could see on the video, it is possible that the guy had a major samba ir not a BO. As for WR, he can still register for the WC in Maribor, next month!

Looks like a big samba indeed.
I doubt this could be in any way recognized as an official world record.

According to the report, the brother and sister team were trying to beat the 13:42 record of Robert Foster in 1959. However, Robert Foster breathed pure O2 before that hold, so does that mean the brother and sister team did as well?

If it was legit, why not announce, "the brother and sister team were trying to beat the 9:08 record by Tom Sietas on May 1, 2007?"

Anyways, interesting feat nonetheless. :t

US Navy has done this stuff oth O2 in the past, reaching 20 minutes in highly-trained divers. Pellizzari did some research and apparently stopped the breathold at 20 minutes because he was getting worried.
Nothing new, and they are magicians. And NOT applicable for actual diving- very dangerous.
