Hi All,

Just speared this new fish on the reef here in Thailand, I have been spearing here for 8 years and never seen it before, anyone ever shot one of these before. When I shot it, it grunted just like a snapper!

The fish in the middle of the photo on top of the ice box.

Was about 2-2.5kg, twin dorsal fin, big scales, got it in very shallow water, i think it was hunting small mullet.:confused::confused::confused:

Hello Siam,

Aldo i cannot precise wich one, the fish you are holding in your left hand looks very much like a grunter, they always grunt when speared as you mencioned, (Haemulidae family), maybe a Javelin Grunter (Pomadasys kaakan) or some other sort of "Pomadasys".

Best regards,

Dias

Looks very much like our Golden Croaker from the Gulf of Mexico. When big enough they're good to eat. When small make good bait especially for Red Drum & Speckled Trout.
