Hi everyone, i just started freediving a couple of days ago.but there is only the instructor and myself that freedive where i live. According to him i am doing really well for a beginner but the thing is, i don't have others from my level to compare myself to.i am competitive so it is important for me to know how i did and what needs to be fixed. my PB static apnea so far is 4.03 minutes ,dynamic 60 meters and in open water i reached 17.6 meters. is this an ok level to start with?i don't know anyone else that started freediving so i am hoping you can give me some advice. thanks

The numbers are pretty good for a beginner but that doesn't mean much about how good a freediver you are or what needs to be improved. My advice would be to worry less about what others are achieving/doing and focus your energy on what you are doing in order to identify what your weakest areas are and improve them.

Purely on numbers I would take a guess that you are not as comfortable going deep as you are in the pool (from your STA and DYN max you def have the potential to dive deeper that 17m but of course you need to take things slowly and build up meter by meter, making sure you are comfortable with each depth).

IF (and I stress the IF) the AIDA criteria say for 4* are anything to go by: 3:30 STA, 70m DYN and 32 CWT, you can see that probably your static is your strongest discipline so far, followed by DYN and CWT is your weakest by far.
