I recently discovered both Scuba and freediving in Thailand. As someone who likes to climb and be up high rather than underwater I thought I wouldn't like it. I loved it all so much I'm thinking of retraining as an underwater videographer. I currently work as a video editor, which I love, buuuut the ocean and a boat would be a much better office.

I have only started with the basic freediver course and Open Water PADI course so I want to do the advanced in each before making my decision of which descipline to go mental at training wise.

In the mean time is there anyone in around Leicester/East Midlands who practises training techniques for freediving. Mainly breathing and pool techniques.

And if anyone has any advice who works in the industry, either as an instructor or photographer/videographer, all would be appreciated.

Looking forward to speaking to you

Hello Jade,
welcome to db.
Do you have to 'train mental' at one of them?
Can't you do them all? (Finances allowing.)
I still climb and scuba and spearfish and walk, I would hate to have to give up any of them, just my 2cents.

I know what you mean, I intend to carry on both recreationally but I don't really have the funds to train to a level in both where I can do one as a career. Not at the moment anyhow unfortunately.

OK, sorry I misunderstood.
In that case, go for it and the best of luck.
There are probably more job opportunities associated with scuba than freediving, unless you're one of those top wildlife cameraman who gets to travel the world freediving with whales and stuff.

Yeah,

Scuba's been around a lot longer and I guess the work is everywhere, there was just something about the freediving that really got the blood pumping. Hopefully doing the advanced course give me a better idea of where to go. Thanks for the welcome : )

Welcome from Texas! That would be a wonderful life and vocation! Keep us posted.
