Im wondering If anyone knows of any good lakes around the Okanagan at all.. I have a hard time getting to the coast due to all the schooling im taking right now. I know there isn't much for around this time of year but any pointers for the spring or such, are greatly appreciated. I have all gear required except the gun, so any recommendations, for a good starter gun, that is good for freshwater, and that I might be able to take out to the coast sometime, but mostly just sticking to lakes. And I have tried searching the B.C. regulations page but couldn't find the regulations for freshwater spearfishing, any help?

Welcome. There are a few spearos near you that do get in to the lakes out there. Amphibious (Colin) knows the regs quite well for BC. The DFO website should have the info you need? I do know that any fish worth shooting are not legal in BC freshwater, so you're left with shooting suckers and carp as far as I know. But suckers are damn good eating believe it or not.

I'd suggest you buy a 75 or 90cm Euro gun ie: OMER, Rabitech, Beauchat. Get a good floatline and a float too, as well as a fish stringer. Print a copy of the regs that define what you are allowed to take and leave it in your vehicle with your fishing license, that way people (ie cops, rangers, fish cops, or whiners) will know that you are legal.

I know, that's government for you.... idiots. Well shrimp'd be good target practice, but not much left to eat after >8^(

Wow, thanks for the response.. Every question answered. Much appreciated. That clarifies alot of things for me, so I know there are some bass in the lakes a little south of penticton ( skaha, vaseux, etc.) They were not included in that list, so they are fair game? that'll be nice if so, find a nice fairly shallow sandy bottom where they are all hanging out. other than that, gotta stick around the weeds.

Sounds like bass are ok to me. Personally I am "liberal" with the Alberta laws because they are stupid. I can't shoot a jackfish in Alberta but somehow I manage to get an angler's quota when I feel like it. I am careful and discreet, and I believe very ethical.
Dude check this thread out and see if you're interested for next year. Or any other opportunities to get with other spearos... we're few and far between, but it's great to get together and shoot some dinner etc. http://forums.deeperblue.com/canada/80504-bc-spearo-camp-trip-round-iv.html
