Hi just recently stumbled into freediving - discovered i could hold my breath playing dead in the pool . Suffered the indignity of being pulled out by my ears by my panicking daughter . I can do 50 mtrs underwater in around 52 seconds and can hold my breath pushing 4 minutes . Can any of you guys or gals give me any tips on training etc . Thanks Cougar

cougar,
your stats are great for a begginer but your daughter was right to pull you up golden rule is no training alone even in pools or baths check out the link belowin the begining freediving section or search for more info then post for something your not sure of.

Re: fcallagy thanks.

Nice of you to reply mate. Yes im beggining to see theres more to this game. Ive had a couple of run ins with the lifeguards at the local pool - i realise now they was only doing their job.I will have to find a minder to watch over me. All the best to you in your efforts. Cougar

At least his kid loves him! Yeah, man, definitely get yourself a spotter. There's this terrible thing called shallow water blackout that has claimed entirely too many of our friends, even the most experienced. Never dive alone.

your welcome cougar some great info on the site here to be enjoyed

hello all,

I am new to freediving and was hoping someone might be able to give me some advice. My ststic is 3.15 and I've dove to 55 feet a couple of times messing around on my honeymoon in Aruba (alone-stupid I know). I will be in Hawaii on business(Honolulu) and am looking for an instructor that might be able to give me priv ate instruction. Since my honeymoon I have done some pool work with my Finis monofin and Omer bi-fins.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!! Sully

personally i REALLY enjoy breath holding. I have always enjoyed it, and it's just a new part of me. kinda hard to describe, but i do belive that you can't get good at freediving unless you have a strong passion for it. you may be okay, but to get really good you must have a passion for it. stubern mine too :p

depends what you define as being good at freediving. There are many fanatstic freedivers that don't compete or don't dive deep as they may be in it purely recreationally, your are right I think they are all passionate about it.
