New to the Gulf Shores Alabama area.

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 90 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.

We moved here a few months ago and I am hoping to run into someone in the area who is active this time of the year. I have always used my pole spear but I just recently purchased a spear gun.
Anyone in the area up for free diving drop me a line.

Welcome to DB, Mainsail.

I grew up in that area, diving from Gulf Shores to Destin. You will find that the pole spear is deadly in that area. Try night diving for flounder around any structure or along the bar, out 100 yards or so from shore.

Do you know of areas where there are structures?

It may sound "lol" but there is alot of beach 8-)

I have been off the pink pony club area quite a bit. I seems as tho every day I have off there are really rough seas.. 8-)

That is until today, when my family made other plans for my free time. I might sell them someday.:duh

The landmarks have all changed, so you will have to find somebody who knows how to find'em today, but:

Whiskey Wreak: several miles west from where the main road comes down to the water at Gulf Shores. Used to be a wiggle in the road near the wreak. Civil War blockade runner, boiler and machinery exposed, hull outline sometimes, big bronse nails in the hull, about 100 ft long, less than 100 yards from shore.

steel sailing vessel, west of where the main road meets the beach, but not far,200+ ft long, nice stern, more than 100 yards from shore. Given passage of several hurricanes, this one might be gone.

Jetty at Alabama Point is excellent for flounder at night and huge specs at dawn. Not sure what the rules are, might be illegal today.

Welcome from Spanish Fort, AL.

There is a rock pile, and an parts of an old wooden hull in about 16-18' of water, Gulf side, just on the West side of Pensacola pass. The approximate locations are marked on most of the local fishing maps, and they are pretty easy to find if the water is clear. Just a little ways out for shore diving, depending on your ability, but easy for a kayak.
