I just started freediving and spearfishing and I dont really know of anywhere in the bay to shoot fish..if anybody could give me some tips out pointers if really appreciate it.

Look for structure, bridges, piers, remains of old piers, wrecks, etc. Check the regulations for what's legal, they keep getting more onerous. Check nautical charts for pilings, wreaks, etc and go find'em. Ask at the dive shops. Find a buddy who knows where to find structure. Off the beach at night on the bar, cruise slowly looking for flounder. That was once very productive.

If, by chance, you have a friend with an airplane, fly over the beaches and bay looking for wreaks and the remains of old structure. This can be a killer way to find stuff others don't know about.

Good luck

Connor

I'm in Panama and interested in the spearfishing but have been focused on freediving and getting back in action. I know Pat Green takes folks on spearfishing trips but nothing else on the subject.

I was there last week on business, but after every day's business, I was in the water. I only shore-dove, so visibility wasn't the greatest. I tried 4 different spots, from St Andrews (inlet -got told to get a dive flag beyond the rocks lol, heard dolphins, but they were by the tour boats in the middle of the inlet) to Days Inn (beach dives). Current wasn't too bad, but was definitely noticeable. I can tell a boat's in order. If I go again, I'll be hitting up Pat Green. Thanks Todd!

Thanks for the divespots, too.

Pope, have you had any luck finding good spots yet?

Pope1, what species are you targeting?
Has anybody checked out the Gulf side of Shell Island? I go down to PC to my uncle's house on the bay and I use his boat for trolling and such. I haven't been spearfishing there but I did get to snorkel on the Gulf side and saw a nice flounder. I will finally have a speargun when I go down later this month and I hope to get some good ones.
