Hi everyone,

I'm pretty new to the sport, but I already know I love it. I've gone out 4 times before, mostly simple beginner reef stuff. 2 times with a local spearo in Dom Rep who agreed to take me out twice for a couple bucks when i approached him on the beach, and 2 times in Maui during a vacation there this Feb. I did ok, but would love to learn from some experienced guys, hoping to meet up with some during my current travels...

Although i live in Atlanta, I'm currently on a 9 month round the world trip. I'm in Croatia now, with the next stop of Sardinia (Sept 15-29), sri lanka and south east asia (October - Dec 15), followed by about 2.5 months in NZ (Dec 15-March 1). From all that I've read, many if not all of the places i plan to be would potentially be awesome to continue to practice and to learn. I'm hoping to connect with some guys around the world who can "show me the ropes" if you will on an outing or two. I really want to learn, and would be happy just being a gopher/observer if it allowed me to improve my skills and technique through watching someone more experienced. If anyone in this area would like to help me out in this endeavor, please respond or PM me, hope to hear from some of you!!

Welcome to Deeperblue. Glad you came in and introduced yourself. I recommend posting in the International Buddy and Trip Report subforums. You can find them if you scroll down the main forum page. They are separated by geographical region, so you will probably have better luck in there.

That sounds like an awesome trip. What was the occasion?

There you go. I'm hoping to pull up stakes and live aboard a sailboat and do some traveling at some point. The idea of a life beyond the 9 to 5 sounds very appealing.

The World Championships will be a good place to observe the best doing their thing! Most freedivers are very commutative and happy to share views, techniques and tips. Is your girlfriend also a happy swimmer / diver? - this would be perfect :)

It's a good thing you've found DB, there are tons of insights to be found here, just use the search window to look up your topics.
