My name is Ronan Cunningham from Ireland, i got into freediving and spearfishing while i studied outdoor education and geography at GMIT Castlebar, Co. Mayo. Since finishing up in college ive moved down south to Waterford. I set up a Facebook Group called Irish Spearfishing/ Freediving in order to bring the diving community together to share dive locations, tips, catches and to organise trips together, the group currently stands at 252 members and slowly increasing with some members from abroad. Feel free to check it out and add yourself or anyone else who may be interested.
cheers for having a read,
Ronan.

Welcome to DB Ronan!

There are some cool spearos here and their stories are as cool as the fish they caught :D

You sound like a very social spearo, perhaps you can share a story with the DB frontpage?

There is also useful discussions going on about legislation issues, a subject where we need to corporate a 100% in order to defend our right to hunt.

Love, Courage and Water!

Cheers Kars,
Hope to get to know a lot of people on DB, its a great community resource for divers of all types, very impressed!
Feel free to check out my Facebook page and join :) any stories or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry I'm not on FB, though I understand most people frequent it very often.

I would like to learn how to spearfish, though the local government and many fellow divers would shoot me for it here!

Well it is. Though most people have not consciously thought about it at all, Greenpeace has had plenty of media time protecting the whales from being speared. Also people are being taught that you cannot trust any meet, and the oceans are near empty. City children don't know meet comes from cows, pigs, chicken, and cannot enjoy a well cooked rabit because they can recognise it's animal shape.

Regular hunting is also something of a taboo among young people. In short one can only do it in secret. Furthermore the water is really murky, and the fish density low. In Zeeland there is a bit more chance, though its challenging not to be seen I presume.
