New World Record Made By Tom!

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Congratulations to Tom! So will he try something more tomorrow?
What did all the swimmers think of his performance? Did some of them watch him do his record??? Or weren't they interested?

yee haw! I knew he had it in him. And Ill bet it he aint done yet either.

prost Tom

I just read from one of the people who were over there that the record is not okay. Tom didn't do a correct surface protocol.
And if you look at the video of the attempt I see another thing...
Anyway, today tom's goes for dynamic without fins. Hopefully he will finish this one correctly.

Tom grabs the edge of the pool before his head comes up from the water.... I did that in my last competition and suffered a huge penalty... personally I think it is a dumb rule, but rules are rules I guess.

Yep, that's what I meant, he grabs the edge of the pool...
I still wonder if some of the swimmers were impressed by Tom's performance.

Thanks for the congrats! Although I first got the white card for my performance, it hasnt been recognized as a new world record - which was correct.

The reason for the dq is that I didnt do the protocol right... The reason for that is, that I didnt consider it important to practice the protocol and I never did it in training. After the dive I didnt have the routine in which order I was supposed to do it - stupidity. :)

But it is also not easy to surface under the conditions I had. When I exhale I have a weight of approx. 10 kg's (minus 2mm suit) pulling me down. At almost every dive I have the difficulty to stay above the surface. The rule that forbids the pulling before surfacing doesnt make it easier plus whats really bad is, when you have ropes like in Switzerland and Slovenia and now here in Hamburg which consist of small plastic discs, you can hardly hold onto them with one hand and do the protocol with the other hand with so many kilos on your neck. Probably I must use a quick release solution...

Anyway, I was satisfied with my performance as I could have gone further and did it very relaxed. Additionally the show was very cool - thousands of spectators, a trailer of mine on large screens.. The organizer of this event did everything to promote freediving as a serious sport - and it worked. Not only the spectators were amazed and cheered wildly after the white card, but also the swimmers were deepy impressed. I talked with some of the world class swimmers who were really interested in training apnea. One of them tried my fins and we were talking about a training session together. No arrogance true recognition and interest.

I think it was a great step for freediving to be recognized as a true sport and also a lot of fun... I hope today we have even more people coming there, as our favourite soccer team doesnt play at the same time.

Sincerely, Tom

Congratulations Tom! You did a really good job. I saw the report on RTL (RTL Aktuell). Very well done, even if it ain't a wr officially, it's still a wr.

Echt geil, ich warte schon auf dein neues Weltrekord!

Tom
You have any plan to break your static record(8'58'') in breathold in this year
i wish i would have known your hemoglobin ratio in your blood., ...?!

I always do that. Not that I'm that bothered about dynamic anyway, but maybe I should try not to. I don't understand the reason for the rule.

I know those ropes, all the pools I know of have them. They are so annoying. Many times I have surfaced from a dynamic and had to hold onto one, and it is not a nice feeling.

This I think is better news than 213 meters. I believe the DYN WR is the "weakest" of them all I think it will move up quite a lot soon.

TOM how do you feel the specators feel when seeing you do an amazing dive and that its NOT a WR. Do you feel they accept the small details of the rules. Would be intresting to hear you comments.

Sebastian

Tom,

I have the same problem with the weight, I use many KG's even without any wetsuit, and sinking is a huge problem (after constant weight as well, since in constant weight I use 2-3kg with no wetsuit).

The solution in the pool (for me), is:
- Use my elbow on the edge of the pool, bringing my head up and using my elbow at the same time
- OR, I put my hand in front of my face, and that way when I grab the edge of the pool, my hand comes out at the same time as my face...
- Coming up in the middle of the pool (with no wall to hold on to) is impossible for me, automatic red card no matter what.

Same with me. I just can't do it.

I started a thread on this a while ago...

Congrats Tom on another great swim!!

Question to DB: Are you allowed within the rules to drop equipment(eg.neckweight) during a dynamic performance? This would effectively be any time prior to completing the surface protocol.
