Hi All,

Just picked up some spearfishing gear and excited to get out in the water. I am based near Inverness and would love to know if there are many people locally who do it.

Any tips on good spots in the North of Scotland greatly appreciated.

Welcome Ken. Thought I already replied to your post but must have forgot to send. Are the lochs classed as sea (saltwater)? I seem to recall that sturgeon have been seen.

From what I've read the saltwater lochs are classed as sea alright. Absolutely brand new to this so lots more reading to do about the laws in Scotland

Hi Ken,

yeah I’m up your way - well another 40miles further north on the east coast. The place is alive at the moment. Some superb water quality - visibility.
A good spot to try a drop or two is off Tarbatness lighthouse. Dependent on comfort/skill level, there is a mix of good ground. More than happy to give you a few spots to try out. Also the coast from Golspie up is also really good.

Don’t spear near river mouths. Especially don’t target migratory fish - sea trout or salmon and don’t look like a seal near river mouths either
