Hi all,

I have been a keen fisherman my whole life (now 27) and have been interested in spearfishing for a while. I finally bought some kit to get going, still need a wetsuit and some weights and weight belt though, but should hopefully have them sorted by the time the warmer weather arrives.

I don't know how many people spearfish here in the South-east? I will most likely go to Dover and Folkestone as the water there seems to be the clearest around this way? May try the stretch of coast from Whitstable round to Ramsgate too in the summer months. A good friend of mine seems keen to start too, hopefully either he will start or i will meet someone a bit local to go with as i understand it isn't a good idea to go out alone?

Thats it really, just a quick hello.

Thanks for reading,

Bud.

Hi Bud, just a quick note ref wetsuits.
I bought a suit from Spiros at oceanos wetsuits and can't say a bad word about it. Made to measure and delivered for less than the price of an off the shelf suit.
look him up.
Happy hunting.

Hi Scallywag, thanks for that, i'll look them up. Still unsure whether to get camo or just black? Thinking of black as I've seen camo rash vests and trousers that go over a wetsuit if i ever wanted camo.

Thanks, Bud.

Hiya,

I'm from just near Tunbridge Wells, started spearing in Devon, then moved back to Sussex and tried it there and I can honestly tell you you're best off heading West!
Be great to find some good spots in Kent/Sussex but unless you have a boat your best bet is over Dorset way. Better / more reliable vis, easier shore entry, nicer suroundings. A couple of us from Sussex (Barnacleboy and Wyvern) head for weekend dives in Dorset (when the weather warms up).
You'll find people dont give away spots easily, so I'll pm you a safe one to get you started, and I'll try and remember to give you a shout if a few of us are heading out.
Si
