Im new to this whole spearfishing effort in Dorset but thought It sounds like real fun and if done properly you may even get a meal out of it, HOWEVER my first visit to the underwater larder proved disspointing as visability was poor, I lost my dive knife, and upon returning to my car discovered that the wetsuit key pocket was annoying void of a car key, so after waiting several hours on a dune whilst being attacked by the local insect popution I was finally rescued by the very very nice man from the AA, (not alcoholics anonymous) after getting home and soaking in the bath I put it down to a bad day, Next day I returned (with car + spare key) only to realize that in all the confusion the day before I had left my beaver mask and snorkel and rather nice fins on the beach, (BUGGER). Undetered I bought the cheapest crappest mask (with razor edges) and snorkel from the local gift shop) I was In the water 2 hours when I FINALLY speared my first fish a 45cm ballan wrasse a fat git he was too, Unfortunatly he retreated into a cave with my spear, after tugging on the line for A while I retrieved my spear, and could just see the dead wrasse in the cave just out of my reach, while all the spider crabs rubbed there claws in glee, I could have cried, my girlfriend sympathetically put a can of tuna in the garden and told me I could spear that but it just wasnt the same! So If there is anyone in Dorset who has any tips or wants a particulary hopeless buddy who is more likely to mistake you for a large cod then please let me know! Oh well Better Luck next time I suppose!
