Hi, i'm getting in to sperafishing and wonderin ghwat the laws are in the uk on closed seasons and bag numbers and protected species etc. ALso, how much local variation is there?
Up until recently the laws were thought to be that;

You can spearfish anywhere in the UK sea.
No spearing in Freshwater.
No shooting salmon or seatrout - but you could shoot anything other fish.
No selling of speared fish.

Recently some people were hauled out of the sea on the south coast because some local law said that spearfishing was not allowed. I don't know how true that may have been.

I've never had a problem from anyone except a few scuba divers who think spearfishing in 'their' dive sites should be banned.
