Today at Deans Blue Hole, on the last day of William Trubridge's Vertical Blue 2010 invitational, Eric Fattah entered an elite league of freedivers who have successfully reached 100 meters in competition. Fattah's roundtrip dive to 100...

This just in: FRC diving feels harder than full lung diving!!

"In fact when comparing a 100m dive on an inhale, it feel like a 56m FRC with way more narcosis..."

So he is human, barely.

Good work Eric, way to represent the cold water crew.

I knew this FRC malarkey was just a "phase" he was going through :D

Seriously congratulations Eric, a huge achievement given the amount you've invested into your body and the sport over the years.

Cheers,
Ben

congrats eric man a 10 yr break between PBs!! must feel awsome to have got the magic 100 for a new pb

Thanks for all the good wishes! Now if I could just get home and into my own bed for the first time in a month it would be great...

inspirational eric!

everybody dived incredibly but to see you continue on a path for so many years and to succeed is GREAT!

for every other diver out there it shows that no matter how crazy the goal appears when you start out it is doable if you want it enough!

Thanks for all the information you have shared and hopefully will continue to share.

RESPECT

DD

What medical stuff do you use when you wake up to know if it's a good day or not Eric? When i was training for half marathons before i checked my blood pressure and pulse just after i woke up every third day. Logged the results and could se when i was on a up swing or a down swing...

The morning of the dive I do:
- oximeter test for metabolic O2 consumption rate and contraction resistance (alkalinity)
- spirometer test for lung volume/flexibility and blood pressure (packing blackout resistance)
- resting pulse upon awakening
- heart rate variability during resting breathing
- heart rate during FRC apnea
- resting blood oxygen saturation
- occasionally, a squat test to determine lactic tolerance in legs -- very gentle, not draining

I used to do a CO2 test with capnograph but stopped since it seemed less relevant.

Wow, those tests must take some time and dedication to maintain every day.

Do you find that the balances are so delicate that they require such detailed measurements?
Have you detected much influence of your physique to your mind and vice versa?

Great news Eric. If you ever publish the story about the last few years, please let us know.

99% of my diving is just for fun diving in the 0-45m zone. During fun dives I still do all my dives on FRC+2L volume.

Congratulations Eric! A well deserved rewards for your years of effort. :friday:friday:friday

I would love to read your manual of freediving science when it comes out. Let me know if you are taking pre-orders or if you are in need of any assistance with editing or finance because I would be happy to assist in any way that would help the process.
I don't know whether a manual is something you have even considered, but please do. Is there anyone else who has approached freediving with such a dedicated hands on and academic manner?(rhetorical) Certainly not that I can think of. You have already shown with your informative forum posts, documents, and divng products that you have that you not only have the skills but have the discipline to bring your ideas to fruition.
What ever you have planned for the future I wish you the best of luck - although it is not luck that brings success it is awesomeness.

Kudos to you!!!

Adam:)
