In the clear blue waters of Cayman there's a race going on. It's not a sailing regata, or the swimming leg of a triathalon. It's a modern day motorcycle race - but it happens underwater while you hold your breath.Kirk Krack of Performance Freediving I...

can't wait to do it again! :t

Looks like a blast alright. Much prefer the look of it compared to the handheld ones.

It looks really fun! Although I think a trained monofin sprinter could beat the people on the scooters just with the monofin. Maybe they can increase the speed of the scooters? A monofin sprinter can cover 3 to 3.5m/s for 100m+, and I don't think the divers on the scooters are going 3 m/s... I did try a farallon scooter in 2005 on a trip with Kirk, and that scooter was ultra fast, I'm sure I passed 3m/s.

I had a turn of a Cayago today without the belt attachment it was hard to hang on it went so fast 16km/hr i think and $30k + . i want one.

in most of these video shots the scooters are not on full throttle - it's like riding a motorcycle and you can accelerate as you please - you can actually get going quite fast, if that's what you fancy.

here's another video that shows a deep dive.

i think Kirk gets to about 75 meters in :60 seconds so that gives you an idea of avg. speed.

Looking at the scooters going through the gates on the sand chute I would agree that they don't appear to be anywhere close to max speed. I would guess to give them the maneuverability to get through the gates.
The CUDA's they are using are many generations ahead of the farallon's and will definitely go a lot faster.
