Note that William Truebrigde easily gets #1, even without a result in DNF...
Truly he is the Worlds most absolute freediver of 2010!
Congrats!

Not only that. He also broke the record annual score, so became not only the 2010 winner, but also the all-time best. Until now the record was held by Natalia Molchanova, with her 540.1 points from 2009. And she almost managed to keep it another year. Still in December her 2009 score was historically the highest for both women and men. Only thanks to his CNF record in mid December, Will took the leadership by a very tight margin of 1.2 point (with the total of 541.3). In fact, instead of the complicated and risky Project Hector, he could simply make a 10m DNF swim with the same result :duh(Project Decor?)

In contrary, Natalia, despite creating two new world records in 2010, had ranking results in only three of the six disciplines. So even with her good form, this handicap was too big, and she finished 11th.

BTW, congrats to you too, Morten - 10th position is an amazing result!

I think #4 Mateusz Malina is super unusual considering he started freediving quite recently and only took him 1 year to reach 100m in CWT.

But congrats to everyone else on the list of course.

That's for sure. Congrats to Matt! Another surprising position is the second rank of Rosibel Molina from Cuba, who achieved all the results in a single competition, which was her first one ever! 99% of freedivers certainly never heard her name before. Amazing!

Wahoo!!

Congrats to all the athletes, especially Will and Liv for winning :)

Liv certainly packs a pint size punch :) Will has put in some amazing performances in 2010!

I added some more info on the WAFA 2010 Press Release page, and there are also a French and a Czech translations, and PDF and Word versions available, if some of the winners (or anyone else) want to put it on their website, or to send somewhere.

There are also some photos, and some additional links. Especially interesting is the interview with the top five male and five female winners made by Sebastian Naslund at Freediving.biz. Good reading - personally I especially appreciated a lot the life story of Matt Malina. Worth of reading! You'll find the link on the WAFA 2010 page:

Rosibel is a natural - a total monster in the water actually - but so smooth and fluid - a thrill to watch.

She also happens to be a true kind soul w/ a big smiling heart.

And just of interest she is a mom.
