Honaunau Bay, Kona, Hawaii -- Australia's Jody Fisher is continuing her record-breaking spree. Having never trained depth before, Jody had a three-day crash course this month in equalizing and AIDA rules before completing a 41m no-fins dive...

This is an news discussion thread for discussing the following DeeperBlue.net News item:

Watching the nice video (Camera freediver swimming the whole dive along!) In think her swimming past is rather evident, nice technique, very good streamlining etc. Indeed with time and opportunity 50m should be well within reach, even 60 + ...

It's always a joy to see people swim with great technique :D

Jody came this weekend to the Czech Championship in Zlin, and I can tell that she's got a talent. Nearly, she was almost not admitted to the competition since she came without a medical statement, but fortunately the organizer called a doctor who did the cert on place. She than smashed the AU national record in DYN by 40m!

If I understood well, she has no monofin, and only used one twice or so. She swam with a borrowed one, and also she stole neckweights of half of the Czech competitors to compensate for her lungs (by a quick glance, it must be 20 liters or something like that). Great performance, I hope someone will post a video.

Someone please buy or borrow her a monofin, and pay the starting fees for the WC in Italy. And some Italians get her some proper coaching. She stays in northern Italy for the next 6 months, and she would like to participate, but I think as a student she can't really afford covering the cost from her pocket. I bet the girl will be minimally in the finals, and more likely on the podium, so if anyone can use a bit of promotion, I think she is a very good bet.

I second your motion, Ivo. :)
I've had the privilege to meet the Australian Wonder here in Nor-Ital, and your thoughts were my thoughts exactly: she's not just a freediver, she's a powerhouse!

Now if I only had a monofin.....:(

You're making me blush! A big thankyou to everyone for all their support, and to Czech record holder Jarmila Slovenčíková for finding me a fin for the competition, as well as hand-holding me as I stumbled my way through Czech being unsure which changerooms were for men and women at the pool (now i know...) Walter's been great, without him, I would have had exactly Zero records, as he organised everything for me in Australia and Hawaii. It was him who encouraged me to compete when I did his course! I might have managed some smaller distances in the pool, but without his guidance I certainly would not have known which way was down for depth :) So credit has to go his way for instructing me! Thanks again :)

Congrats Jody - judging by the video, I'm sure you'll go A LOT deeper soon :)

Ivo, you were definitely spot on with your 4 months ago prediction, when nobody had an idea. Here's your official certification as a talent-scout. :king

Now please, straight from your chrystal ball, toss me please some win-win lotto numbers, then I won't bother you anymore.......... ;)
