Its been covered in three different threads on Spearboard. It was an eagle ray, not a stingray. Sting rays don't jump, but eagle rays frequently free jump, and this one landed in the boat of an 81-year-od man. Apparently he was trying to get it out of the boat when he got a barb to the chest.

The newpapers called it an attack, but that is obviously the wrong term. It was simply a rare and unfortunate accident.

Eagle rays have multiple barbs on their tails.
