No limits definition

I saw the discussion that ensued on wether ruptured eardrums are part of a no-limits dive and saw split opinions... what do you think? is No limits really no limits? as long as the diver is concious it doesn't matter that he has barotrauma of any kind? is this part of the no limit experience and should be allowed?

This thread should serve as continuation to that one.

Well, I'll offer even more food for thought:

- Is it permitted to take a final breath of air from a scuba tank with some helium, to avoid oxygen toxicity or narcosis?
- Is it permitted to stop on the ascent at 6m to breathe 100% O2 for 20 minutes to avoid DCS?
- Is it permitted to have a blackout at 150m on the ascent (from N2) then wake up later on during the ascent? (This happened to Pipin once!)
- Is it permitted to use polyfluorocarbon resin in the lungs?

Well I am pretty sure that you know the answer to all of those questions... I would deem that it is probably illegal to inhale helium or to stop at 6m...

the blackout thing... I guess it can go by unnoticed... (tanya's 160m dive?)

I wouldn't know what the resin does... can u explain :wave

Tanya's blackout did not go un noticed! The judge was right in front of her as she over packed and had a quick blackout on the sled. She came round quickly and asked the judge if she could still do the dive. He said yes, she took 2 breaths and completed 160m very clean. At that time, that situation did not contravene the rules.

well... I think he means [FONT=&quot]perfluorocarbons, the "abyss" stuff.
that liquid was very much hyped 7-8 years ago when it was believed that it could be a treatment for several acute lung disorders (ARDS, RDS of the new born...) that require mechanical ventilation. BUT, after several animal experiments and clinical studies it did not prove superior to other alternative therapies. hype over!!!
