No Spearing

I've been to a few coves round Cornwall that have signs saying no spearing or no snorkelling what's the legal standpoint here ? Can private land owners stop you from spearing in the sea at their locations ?

Other than Lamorna I have yet to see any other signs that ban spearfishing. My only concern re. Lamorna is they list it on the carpark sign under restrictions and penalties and I wonder with the way wheel clampers seem to be a rule to themselves (some very earger clampers down that way! .. Par!!) wonder if they could give you a fixed parking fine penalty for breaking a parking restriction.

Where else is saying its banned Padaxes?

I find myself down around that way a couple of times a year and have always fancied having a go at Lamorna so this year I had a word with both the people in the café and the guy on the slipway with the boats and both told me that it wouldn’t be a problem. The only reason the sign has a spearo ban is that a few years back a couple of idiots were down there waving around loaded spearguns out of the water so as long as I kept the gun unloaded while on dry land there was no problem.
Just a shame that when I dived there the vis was shite, but the place does have a lot of potential, and the cafe does the BEST crab sandwich i've ever had.

Look closely if you go to Penberth Cove, there is a sign on the wall saying no skin diving etc, along with 'concerned' local fishermen who'll comment when you walk past with 'their' catch. The usual stuff but from my point of view it's best to obey the rules and keep smiling.

Yeah im keen to keep things friendly I was just wondering what the actual legal standpoint was? I mean can they actually stop you from spearing / freediving ? There was another thread about a National Trust carpark banning spears and although as pointed out there arn't many places that have these rules its a worrying trend....
