Nose Bleeds...

On some days diving I get nosebleeds. Usually spearfishing 50-60ft. It's almost always the same, bloody snot. Today I got it real bad, 5-6 dives and I'd blow my nose, alot of red snot. I felt fine, I'm don't feel sick. It didnt bother me while diving. I'm just curious why it happens.

cold water (guess not in Miami?) equalizing too hard? not frequently enough? I would bet you actually see rose colored snot rather than red red blood in a real nosebleed? It would happen to me all the time when I started but gets less all the time. there are many fine capillaries in the nose and sinuses that rupture with ease if not treated nicely.

I have had a similiar problem, and the reason was that I forced myself to go deep without equalizing my sinuses properly. My sinuses were blocked by a flu...so after one day of doing that, I could not dive deeper than 5 m without getting my mask part filled with blod. Now it works fine, and 2 weeks later I dived to 46m in a 4-11C lake with no problems. The lesson for me must be: don't force anything, if it hurts it is wrong. If it bleeds, take a break.

It's just some fine capillaries bursting. It shouldn't be a cause for concern. I'd had it before too, I never felt any pain, and was surprised that I was bleeding from my nose.

Water wasnt cold, 78F. No problems equalizing, didnt force anything. Don't feel sick, havent been sick in a while. It didnt hurt at all during the day. One thing though..I haven't been in the water for about a month. Work and other B.S. got in the way.

Yeah just burst capillaries. As long you have to blow your nose first to get it out that's fine. But if you have blood gushing out your nose (until it floods your mask) that's bad news. I rarely have nosebleeds these days, but when I did before (just rusty colored sputum / mucus), it was because I had seawater in my mask and some got sucked in the nose.
