Noseclip recommendations

The Trygons looks good but I'm a bit reluctant to spend 50 EUROS on a nose clip!

Would anyone like to recommend an alternative?
 
buy the trygons! I have tried a few but they all slip of my quite normal size shnoz, especially on slightly harder turns in dynamic. the trygons really does not move.
 
All the ones on ebay are around the 5 euro mark - loads cheaper! And I would buy the best but I'm broke, and also a beginner - its daft to have pro kit and not be able to do basic stuff with it - l figure my money's better spent on courses for skills and holidays for the time and place to practise.

The 'speedo pro' is probably the best of the rest, no?
 
well, I guess there is some confusion here.

What kind of freediving do you want to do? Can you equalize very easily or maybe BTV without using your hands?

If you just want a clip to stop water going up your nose the speedo is fine. If you are planing to equalize against it, unless you are very skilled, the bigger clip type are the way to go (of these, the trygon is king IMHO)
 
The noseclips around 5€ are ordinary noseclips for synchronized swimming, not suitable for freediving. Well for the pool they may do the job, though they won't hold strong contractions and unless you lock your epiglottis well, you'll loose air.

If you are looking for a noseclip for depth disciplines, then they are not really useful. If you just want such a simple swimming noseclip for the pool, go the the closest store with sport goods, and get one there. You can get one for as low as 2€. Get anyone you like, the brands are little important, but take one that looks more robust.
 
I have a Trygon and they are awesome but they need a bit of modification not to hurt your nose. Also, if you have a big nose like me then they can be a fiddly to get the fit right. Once they are on you forget about them quickly and the thing is just amazing.

It's also very easy to make your own. Do a search for DIY nose clips and you'll see there is a bunch out there. I think DIY noseclips are cool and they are made for your nose so probably fit better too. The cheap ones you see are not suitable for equalizing, they will only keep water out (if you are lucky ). For freediving you need something that is strong and robust.
 
Hey Siku - can't add much to what Trux explained but unless you have a good reason to buy one, then I wouldn't waste money on one...

Definitely don't waste money buying the trygons one for now - it won't come of use to you for a while (if ever) and even then you'll probably need fluid goggles too... Unless you are going REALLY deep or doing CNF there's not much point in using one, just get a good mask ;-)

Well, I like using my Paradisia noseclip for statics. For the best relaxation I release the epiglottis, so if I did not have a reliable robust noseclip, I would lose a lot of air through the nose. I would not recommend using any mask for statics, but even with a mask you'll likely lose air when under strong contractions. Hence a solid freediving noseclip is useful for beginners too.
 
Interesting point trux - thanks for the advice, I can see how releasing the epiglottis helps relaxation, I should try it... Personally I don't get strong contractions (or just don't like pushing until I get them) so losing air like that is not a big issue and I don't compete seriously or often - I do however sometimes lose air in dynamic training (mainly when I get tired or doing fast laps) or during equalisation (I use btv)..

Siku I do occasionally use a speedo noseclip in training so in my case it does the job I guess for the pool but wouldn't count on it for anything serious or depth. It doesn't feel secure enough (so would probably come off if you had strong contractions and had the epiglottis released or tried to equalise against it) and in my case it leaks very slight on one side which is not an issue for training but would be for depth or comps..

I know at least one person that has a trygons in the club so just wait until you join and then you can have a look at it and decide but personally I would wait a while before investing in one. If you want to start from day 1 using a noseclip for statics (for the reasons trux mentioned) then the speedo (assuming a reasonable fit) will be fine and won't break the bank.

The Trygons is good but it very easy falls out from my nose. I recommend to test one first.
 
Try paradisia noiseclip, price 30 euro, you'll save 20 Euros not bad!
 
Confused - too many possibilities! I'll wait till I've tried some stuff out. But as ever thanks for all your thoughts!
 
I use a paradisia noseclip and they are really great. In the beginning i needed to search a bit how not to lose them but now i really like them !
 
Does anyone know of a fix for the Trygon. Mine loosens up when I pack and my first clear loses air. I think that I've been closing it the wrong way and now it may be worn. Coarse sandpaper on the top or bottom of the crossbar???
 
having had a look at the paradisia site, the clip they show looks a little different to the one i've seen over the years.
it appears less bulky and more streamlined, have they updated the model or am i completely wrong ?
 
The Paradisia is very easy to brake, and lately more and more people have accidents with it. Even in depth!! My choice is Trygons. Not ideal, but definitely the optimal.
 
thanks for your input. i'm still wondering however if there is an improved design now made by Paradisia ?
 
Not that I know. Anyway, I gave up writing to Bernardo and waiting, waiting, waiting... The one other similar design I've seen was at Lotta's shop in Dahab. I've seen some black noseclips, that looks just like the Paradisia. And There's just another one, of PFI, which is not bad but way too small (and according to Aharon - I don't have a nose ).
That's all what I know about shapes and designs
