Hi I'm moving to NYC and I would like to join a freediving group.
Do you have info for me???
Thanks
Carla

I live in nyc and I can tell you that there are no freedivers here. :( It's even hard to find a good pool to train as for example YMCA's do not allow freediving and places such as Chelsea Piers where it is permitted are very expensive (140$ for teenagers!) Anyway, once it gets warmer it is possible to go to Dutch Springs Let me know if you would like to go diving someday. :)

I don't know of any freediving-specific clubs in NYC, but there are pools that you can train at. I heard from another DB member that the YMCA on the upper west side allows freedive training. I inquired at the pool at Stuyvesant High School and they didn't seem to have a problem with it, either. Luckily, I have a friend with an indoor pool in her building.

As Kajojek mentioned, when the weather is warmer, Dutch Springs is an option and around 1.5 hours from NYC, but when I was there in October, the maximum depth was only 82' (25m).

Thanks a lot for the info!
I will be at Washington Heights thus probably the YMCA pool would be the closest. Let me know when you go to dutch spring!
Anyway, if somebody is interested in forming a NYC freediving group you are wellcome. I really like spending time with people who share the same passion!!!

Just recently I communicated with a French guy who relocated to NYC from London, and searched buddies for freediving too. He subscribed on the NYC freediving group at meetup.com, and you can also contact him on Facebook (I don't want to post his name without permission, but he is the one at the top telling he is moving from London to NY, and under the same name on Facebook too).

Otherwise there are also several freedivers from the NY area registered at Apnea.cz, so you can get in touch with them too, and try founding a club with them. This is the map with all US members, but you can zoom very closely on NYC to get the locations of those in your neighbourhood:
