Diving Dane I think we need to have a manly talk, man where are your priorities these days?! :mute

hahahahah thanks Kars,

yeah i know its pathetic but she is a REALLY good pastry chef and i REALLY like my food and some of the other finer points that come with not being single....... but i do have it in writing that when the wedding is over i have freedom to dive when i wish and work allows.... and its even signed!

so hopefully 2011 i'll have 3 weeks to travel and dive so thinking:
- somewhere tropical for training week 1: Gili maybe
- see some family and some wrecks: Thunder bay Great lakes USA
- 1 week depth attempts: Long Island bahamas?

but nothing confirmed yet.

whoops getting a bit off topic, anyway everybody go to the NZ championships, deep water, good beer and lots of Sheep

Merry Christmas

The Sheep are great!! At last years Taupo Comp, I sheered one right by the lake, lined my wet suit with the wool and completely forgot there was a thermocline.

Get's a bit itchy in the nether region though and required a LOT of lube to get into, but the results speak for themselves.

Heh heh

Well I hope this documented and witnessed. :hmm

Weddings are the easy bit - I was freediving at 6am on the day of my wedding and working out my speech at the same time. Lol (which meant i was ready for sleep by 11pm) wait until you have a baby - my fins and mask have been collecting dust for the last 3 months!

Enjoy the comp everyone, wish I could join you - lake Taupo looks amazing (at least above water )

The sheep required a lot of lube to get into? Well this certainly isn't PG anymore.

With around 40 million sheep in the country, you're almost certain to find a pretty one.

The thermoclines aren't that bad on world terms. They move around a bit, but there's a shallow one around 15-25m that is quite small (3 degrees or so) and a deeper one somewhere in the 35-45m range that drops you down to about 10 degrees or so, I believe. Past that, ask Dave.

Speaking of, he seems to manage just fine in a 1.5mm suit...

There ought to be another depth competition recently in NZ, but I can't find the results for the ranking anywhere. Did it really take place, or was it cancelled? It is the Oceanhunter Deep Obsession competition from the 2nd-3rd December 2011

Phil is away until the 9th, I'm looking into how they need to be submitted. Phil started the process, so I just need to look into what's involved.

Cheers!!

Well, the official way to submit the results to AIDA International is well described in this video, but in the time being, you can send the results in whatever format you have to ranking@apnea.cz - I plan announcing the WAFA awards soon, so would like to have all 2011 results as soon as possible.

BTW, I wonder whether the NZ freedivers are in contact with the freediving community in the neighbour New Caledonia (French territory). I see they just had their championship a few days ago, but I did not manage to get the results either. I think it was just a pool competition, though. Anyway, regarding the isolate location of NZ an NC, I think both nations would profit if you contacted and invited each other to your competitions. The public address of the FFESSM federation in NC is ffessm.nc@mls.nc, so do not hesitate to get in touch with them

I'm just looking at booking some time off work for this - when is it likely we'll be able to train at the lake? I'm pretty rusty so would need a few days getting back into the swing of it.

Cheers,
Ben
