Hello deeperblue community,

I'm Padi certified and new to spearfishing. I joined a club around here and am trying to find some people to meet up Orange County, CA for spearfishing/lobster diving. It'd be nice to find a regular dive buddy. If anyone in the south OC area has an urge to go everyday, then hit me up!

I think your best bet would be the OC Spearos and Friends Facebook group. I don't think a day goes by when I don't see someone looking for dive buddies. As the name of the group implies, you don't have to join the club to post on the site. If you do want to join, attending the club's monthly meetings would be a way to meet divers. Unfortunately, the meetings are virtual until the Covid crisis eases up. My season is about over since my focus is on white sea bass and yellowtail and I don't do lobster. And since I'm old and feeble the only people I dive with are very experienced divers who don't require help and know their way around boats. With the covid crisis booming, there are just a very few guys who I take on my boat, all of them being willing to wear masks until we come out of the cabin and suit up. In fact with the huge increase in cases, I don't think I'll be taking anyone on the boat until late Feb/early March when the white sea bass return and there may be a vaccine for old farts like me. However, I live in San Clemente and have been spearfishing since the early 1950s, so I might be able to offer some advice, brag about fish, show you equipment, etc. if you want to come by. We can wear masks and shoot the breeze.

Thank you for reaching out! I appreciate the tip about Facebook and yeah, I joined OC Spearos but like you said Covid is making things a bit difficult. I'll definitley take you up on any advice/stories I can get. My goal in spearfishing is to eventually work my way up from shore diving and go after bigger game so it'd be great to get advice from you with your experience level. When could I swing by?
