Oceanic Geo vs. Suunto D3

Hey guys,
there's another good device all in one for scuba and freediving:

Prowler.

Immersion made it.

I'm also struggling to make a decision for a free diving computer. I would also like to use for the odd scuba dive. I've identified four contenders:

Mares Nemo

Oceanic Geo

Suunto D3

Suunto Stinger

Immersion Prowler
no manual available

The GEO is the only one that measures nitrogen build up during freedives. I think I'll just buy it. If it doesn't work out there is always ebay

But still I'm interested to know what you think.

MajorNoNo,

the nitrogen calculation during freediving and scuba at the same day was an important reason for me, too. AFAIK the Geo/manta is the only computer with which you can do that at the same day. That's why I bought it and I'm happy with it.

The main think that I don'tz like is, that I can only see the data from the last dive in freediving mode. In scuba mode I can see the log from more then 20 dives. But it it possible to transfer the data of your freediving log to a computer (and I think that the cable for that is expensive)

And don't forget that he can calculate with Nitrox too.

Does the Geo show your deepest depth or longest dive of the day in freedive mode? I understand you can't go back and look at individual dives, but I was curious if it lists max times / depths in FREE mode

It only shows you the stats from your immediate last dive, but the software gives you the full rundown after upload. It's set-up as a database which you can set to search specific parameters, link photos to dives, and record info from different dive sites. Quite a bit more thorough than I expected actually.

I finally bought the geo. I was messing around with it last night and should be getting out to wet-test it this weekend. I had a question for people who have already had the watch for a while.

Did you use the protective faceplate sticker that came with it?
If so, how is it holding up? I am asking because it seems like it would become frosted/hazy/obstructive after a while since it is so soft (one of the reasons I chose the glass-faced Geo over the plastic-faced D3 was to avoid this problem), or maybe peel off after a month of use.
If you haven't used it, how is the face of the watch holding up?
I was just curious if I should put it on or not go through the trouble.

Thanks

I've had the face cover on during about 6 months of use (or 250 odd dives). I can't even tell it's there unless I touch the edge with a finger nail. No visual obstruction whatsoever, and it's saved the crystal more than once during shoreline flailing. Highly recommended!

How big is the Geo? The manual doesn't give any specs for size. I wanted to get one (mostly for freediving) but some of the other computers I have seen are like sticking a can of vienna sausage on your wrist (sorry happened to see the can in the pantry earlier today)...

Thanks...ken

The D3 isn't that big when you compare it to other dive computers, but if you are expecting a watch that you can wear with a suit, then you are going to be disappointed. I wear mine as an everyday watch that way if I want to head out last minute diving I have it with me (I also keep all the rest of my gear in the car which pisses off the wife), but occasionally I get comments from non-divers that my watch does look big, but any watch with dive/freedive features is larger than your average dress watch. Take a look at post 10 from this thread and there are some pictures posted to help you get a better idea of the size. (http://forums.deeperblue.net/635997-post10.html).
As a side note, the D3 surprised me when I first saw it in person. It was much larger than I had anticipated from the design shape you see on Suunto's website, but like I said, almost all dive computers are this way.

Is anyone here using the Cressi EDY? Im planning to buy a GEO or a EDY for summer but would like to get some more infos on the EDY, how is the software which you can use to import the data from the EDY to your PC? Is it Like the one showed here for the GEO?

I am comparing GEO vs Edy.

Right now I am leaning toward the Geo for these reasons

1) larger display
2) 2 year warrenty (Edy is one year)
3) Geo will be supported by DiveLog soon
4) availability and price are better

Anyone have the Geo and like it? how is the size of the watch on the your wrist?

Thanks
Dave

Anyone have the Geo and like it? how is the size of the watch on the your wrist?

I have just been in a shop to compare suunto D6 to Geo and so the geo is a little bit bigger (larger and thicker) than the D6
it doesn't help me to choose between the 2...

OK, Today I dove with a new GEO and my 4 year old D3 strapped to my wrist. I downloaded the GEO with the Oceanlog software and it only shows dive times rounded to the nearest minute (ie 0, 1 minute) with no seconds. Even when I export the data it does not show seconds. Anybody have a work around on this?
Dave

Just look at this logs(same dive, 1- ocenlog, 2- diving log), i think there"s an answear for quastion about missing sample..sorry for my bad english

I have the geo and I give it 5 out of 5 stars and I'm in the water every other day. It has everything. One thing it has that others don't is the ability to go into Free mode after you have had some scuba dives. The details about the watch are already here or google it, but just wanted to say I'm happy. I got the "new" version on scubatoys.com or leisure pro may also have it for $299
