Hi folks,

We're evaluating whether we should add an Octopush section to both our main editorial site and the forums.

Are people interested in this, and if we have anyone who is an active (or used to be an active) Octopush player and is interested in helping to manage or contribute to an Octopush section drop me a line via PM or via stephan.whelan@deeperblue.net

Many thanks!

Octopush is also known as Underwater Rugby. It's a fairly aggressive underwater sport played in pools around the world :D

ah right!!!

yeah any underwater rugby players with long breath hold times by number is

555-.... rofl rofl

I play octopush once or twice a week in the winter. You play it on the bottom of the pool with a small pusher and a puck which you can dribble or pass with goal at each end. More info here

Underwater rugby is something different played with gel filled small rugby ball (I think!) and is much rougher. :ko I've never played and don't know the rules but maybe another member does...

To be honest I wouldn't really look to deeper blue for info about octopush - I ascociate DB with the ocean stuff (hence deeper blue) and of course it makes sense to include the pool based disciplines of freediving too. The support/knowledge exchange is already there with octopush because it is a team sport with leagues etc.

Doesn't mean you can't give a go though - I would be happy to pass on what little knowledge I have - I'm not very good at it! :)

I'd love to see a scrum underwater :D
I've seen them - and got trapped in one! (and I wasn't even playing) :D

Underwater rugby is an incredibly rough game.

Octopush is Underwater Hockey - not Underwater Rugby

It is vicious and evil and fantastic fun... sadly lots of the pools round here have banned it because their tiles kept getting damaged but the world cup is in the UK this year I think!

Everybody's got it all wrong.

Octopush is what Sean Connery orders at a sushi restaurant

In the year 2000 I made underwater camera for a sponsored project.
We made a livestream of the worldchampionscup of underwater rugby.
I just found a link with a short cut of it.
When I remember right there were much better sequencies, but anyway.
I was a bloody beginner in camera work this time.
We used this small fingercams for fixed and one movable camera with me behind. (shane, by the way it was a trv900 ;))
I spent hours in this pool and that for 3 days! :head
but it was a funny event and very interesting because I haven't heard of underwater rugby before and noone had have really experiences with livestreaming at this time.

To get an idea what underwater rugby is, check this out:

decide: wmp or real.

Hey that looks great fun!! Not sure what the rules were though - bundle and get the ball in the net, whilst trying not to drown?? :)

Mmmm.. looks like a nice low contact sport. Death by drowning being the only minor side effect:)

Looks like a feeding frenzy when they all pile up on the goal. :)

Too much contact for my taste.

Yes, we canadians usually refer to it as Underwater hockey. Rugby is football, and football is soccer..
