Well, I thought I would post it here so most everyone would know. I have accepted a position with a company in Seattle, Washington...I start 3/24. We will be living on Vashon Isand in the Puget Sound. Anyone from the Wisconsin Spearo network will always have a place to stay. :)

Jon, thank you for my intro to freediving/spearfishing. You are always a world of information, and a great guy. That goes to all of you guys...It has been great getting to know you...keep the sport going here & look for my spearo reports from WA. Perhaps I will make an event in the future. Try to hit the Sheboygan Power Plant in April ... there have to be some big carp there.

Anyway, it has been a blast. Scott, I still owe you the camera mount for winning last year's rough fish contest...just message me the measurements...I will make it after the milling machine is set back up...by mid June.

Good luck to all.

Gene

Gene,

Make sure you bring your freediving kit with you because there's some great diving to be had out there- in the ocean!

Everywhere I went in Seattle it seemed like I was never more than a couple of blocks away from it. I didn't dive Vashon island but the whole place is filled with life- you'll just have to learn how to read a set of tide tables.

There also the whole Canadian freediving crew just to the north of you in Vancouver. Probably easier to take a course from PFI living out there than back here in Wisconsin. ;) I didn't get to dive up there but I did get to do some kayaking- which is pretty cool when you have seals swimming along side your boat looking to play- never had that happen in Lake Michigan. ;)

The other cool thing about that area is the vast amount of Forest with no mosquitoes! Seems they can't breed in saltwater and there are forests surrounded by it. I had never been in such pretty trees, without being eaten alive, before I went out there.

I believe there's a group putting on a palooza event just to the south of you in Oregon.

Glad you got a job in a pretty place- too bad it wasn't back home.

Take care,

Jon

Gene,

Glad to see you landed a Job in such a sweet spot. I don't blame you for taking the job there- I'd do the same! I do remember a bunch of guys out there doing some type of yearly event last year. I was thinking then, "Man, that would be cool to go to" Now I might and just stay at your place :D (HEY- you offered! :) ) Thanks for going diving with me and taking me Salmon Fishing - That was Freak'n awesome!

Thanks for all you've done for the WISCONSIN Forum!

Pingene... good luck. Never got to meet you, but I remember you back from the "Lake-link" days. At one time you were the first person I ever "met" other than me who spearfished in Wisconsin.

Let us know how it goes out there!

Take care Gene, please don't be afraid to post from time to time so we can keep in touch with you.
Later,

Brian

Gene, all the best dude :)

You've done an awesome job with this forum, an inspiration to all for which we are all grateful. Can I offer my sincerest thanks for all your work here. Keep in touch dude, I hear the internet in Seattle works just fine so there is no excuse :)

Seattle area is great. Take a ruck sack, fishing gear, mountain boots, rock slippers, skiis, kayak & a bike or two too! (Or visit one of the local REI mega-stores). Pity you have to work;) It didn't rain much when I was there (esp. compared to Britain) & when it did you'd usually see some blue sky later in the day. And you won't need to dig your drive out or water your lawn:D. Loads of great book stores & coffee shops.

There are spearos in the area -- seem to recall a guy called Pedro on one of the spearo forums holding a small Rob Allen railgun in one hand and a big ling cod in the other. Let us know how you get on.

Gene, I never got to dive with you, but you've given me some good info on here. Good luck at the new job, it sounds like your going to a pretty cool place.

BTW, now get out, don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya! :) Just kidding you can vist now and then, just don't get too comfortable! :)

Good luck bro.

Hi "Gene"

Wish I could have met you while you were here. We only live about a half hour apart. I have family in Bothel and Seatle so maybe I'll catch you out there. Take care.

Gene,
I didnt have much experience with you either, only one dive, and it didnt last long. But it was a day well spent in a place I had never gone before. Thanks to Gene, I made it over here. After I joined at spearfishing.com he dropped me a line saying that you guys were over here, and I got a membership. Im hoping to see some good group diving come out of that. My buddy I brought with me that day will also be sad, he often refers to you in pictures as "Pinggene! That guy that looks like james bond!" I just got an offer to come out to puget sound for college. So if i do a visit this summer, maybe we will get a dive in. Let me know how the diving is? Thanks,
Forrest

All,

Thank you for the kind words. After we get settled, there will always be a place for any DB Wisconsinite to stay in Seattle. Do a search for Vashon Island...will be great. Should be fun. I guess one can go crabbing as well via freediving! :p Bring on the melted butter!

I'll continue to post. Keep er going here in WI.

Gene

I will come out there next year sometime- I'll check to see when a good time to come out and dive- and then make plans at work to make it happen.

Gene I just read our post and will 2nd ILDiver's post- look us up! And the people in Vancouver are a great bunch.

hey gene

Scott,

Scounds great. I'll keep active & post/email you as I get settled in.

To all the WA people, thank you for the support. I look forward to meeting you and diving with you.

Gene
