Anyone in the Buckeye state want to freedive our quarries? Gotta be some OSU students or someone besides McCoy and myself. Gilboa quarry has been awesome this summer but I am dying to find someone to go with. I am willing to help any newbies in the area too. If it sounds like I am begging...I am!! I gotta get underwater more.

Mike

Hey Mike! I'm of the same name and at least used to be of the same state. There are a few freedivers up there, but not many. Good luck finding 'em! I'm in New Zealand for the next year and was in Florida for 6 years before that. Might be back in Ohio next year though, so I may be lookin you up then for a dive. Sounds like you're near Columbus. I'm in a near panic down here trying to figure out how to watch games this year! haha! I'm originally from Toledo and then Cleveland and a big buckeye fan. Let's hope they bring home the roses!

Cheers,

Michael

Hi Mike, are they allowing freediving a gilboa? I frequent white star park in gibsonburg for for my open water scuba student training and dont get down to gilboa often. I have been under the impression that because of insurance constraints there was no freediving in those quarries.

Have things changed in ohio? Im at white star quarry tomorrow and will check again.

Maybe we could hook up if schedules allow.

FreedivinMike and Monk,

I'm in the Cleveland westside area and would be glad to meet up at the quarries for some training sessions. Good or bad; I am a newbie. However, my background is swimming and scuba diving so equalization and such are not a problem. I will admit I am very out of shape. My gear is all scuba; closed cell 3mil suit, standard mask, and scuba fins.

Drop me a PM if interested.

Hey MIke I tried to contact you a number of times to tell you I was going to be in Dayton for like at week doing some robotic training at OTC. I wanted to get together with you to dive finally but you never bothered to answer me back. I'm going to be here untill saturday but you never contacted me back so I didn't bother bring my dive gear. sorry

Hey Les, Wow, I am sorry I did not know you were trying to contact me. You are in Dayton right now? I am only an hour away. Wonder if we could get together for a pizza or snack or something. How do you like this weather? It would have sucked diving in this! You can call me at 614-565-8179.

I would love to get an Ohio club going or get in one. I live in Lancaster Ohio. That's about 30/40mins south east of columbus. I'm new to the sport but I really like it. I just spent a month in Kona Hawaii where my dad lives and freedives/spearfishes. I had the privilege of training with Bill, Annabel, my dad and their dive group. I don't have my own equipment yet but I'm working on it. Bill let be use some of his old long fins but he selfishly wouldn't let me take them back to Ohio :). The rest of the equipment I borrowed from my dad. My static breath hold is up to 2:45 now and slowly getting better. My last dive in Kona was 75feet.

Hey Zipper
Good name for the net. I think all the Ohio divers are in hibernation or Florida for the winter. You'd probably have to go to Ottawa and join the crazy Canuks to dive a quarry this time of year. On your next visit, if dad won't let you use his Mustangs, you can strap on my Nemo and see the difference that makes.

Hey Bill, how goes the training? I'm looking forward to a good showing next month. No pressure. :)
I talked to freedivinmike a few times both in email and on the phone. He said there is a quarry called Gilboa north of me about a 50min drive. He so far is the only freediver I know of in the Columbus area. Mike is looking for a pool for us to use to train. I've been doing dry static tables but it's not the same. I'm starting to have trouble relaxing. I miss Honounou. The problem now is I'll have to wait until spring or summer before I can go to the quarry. The plan is to go to Kona July 2009 but I don't want to wait that long. Now I need to get some equipment. Mike sugested a custom wetsuit from diveskin.net as it's cheaper then Elios. I looked up the fins you have and they are out of my price range. Is there anything else cheaper that is still good?

I have a brother in law in Ohio, He loves spearfishing but is very new to the sport,Ill talk to him and see if he would like to give fresh water a try
