This site keeps asking me to introduce myself so I guess I will.

I started freediving about 1975. Thought 30' was deep till I moved to Guam. Started spearfishing there in the '90s with a partner who quickly showed me up and I got to be comfortable fishing at about 50'.

We live in the desert now and rarely get to dive, but went out last week off La Jolla. Didn't have fins, so was pretty limited. A new and disconcerting experience having the bottom moving around (grass). Felt like I was back on my boat in rough weather.

i don't come here often, just when I need suggestions. Great resource for that.

I do have a question about what regulations there are for spearfishing the California coast. Guam had regs, but they were largely ignored. Can't find anything that specifically lays out what regulations apply to spearing though, by inference I think I probably need to have a $100 non-resident sport fishing license? I'm also guessing that if I do some searching here, I'll probably find the answer.

Cheers

k
