Hi everyone, I'm knocking on a bit but getting excited about beginning to freedive.

Hi Alkali, welcome aboard. :)
Where are you going to freedive?

Welcome to the sport where you can actually get better with age. There are some very skilled, deep divers on this forum old enough to have been at Hendrix concerts, a very special experiance. Atlanta Pop Festival, outside, 2 am, Hendrix playing the Star Spangled Banner, accompanied by massive thunderstorms, lightning and fireworks. . . you had to be there.

Connor

Thanks Naiad and cdavis,

I'm just going to be starting in the mediterranean, from Alonnisos island. Nothing too ambitious...I only just managed to get up to 2.30 in breath hold terms. Connor, that Atlanta gig sounded great....we were the support band in a local dance hall and didn't know what had hit us...he was very gracious and shy and gave me a cigarette (a Rothman's Kingsize) which I guesss I should have kept.

You played with jimi hendrix...... wow! that is massive !
Hi there Alkali a warm welcome to you. nice to have you around, I only just started at 49 but like connor said its a sport that gets better with age.

Thanks one and all, YT, I was only in the support band...
Damn, have to go work for a while....see you guys soon!

hey Yoda Turtle....funnily enough the Hendrix gig was in Essex....Grays Civic Hall....also met Rod Stuart, Elton John before he was, Eric Clapton and loads of crappier people.

ha ha I like the bit about "loads of crapier people" we get them a lot out here! yeah am off to work to in a bit but only for an hour or so.

You've played with Hendrix AND worked on Dangermouse??? I need to sit down for a bit, too much to take in. In Australia I was plonked in front of Dangermouse by mum for most of my youth then became heavily addicted to Hendrix in my teens. You're a lucky bloke!

Welcome to the forums, you'll find a ton of knowledge here. And yes, older freedivers can cut it with the younger guys - one of the sport's levellers is that breath hold seems to get better with age.

Cheers,
Ben

Thanks BennyB,

yes I know I've been lucky but I've paid for it....face like a gremlin and fingers worn to stumps....

Welcome alkali.......I agree with "better with age"....the heart gets stronger the older one grows.....also the body doesn't need as much oxygen to fuel movement.....I'm only 23, and have advanced a bit in these last 6 years of spearing but can only imagine what's possible if I maintain consistency.....nonetheless, there are certainly some older generations of spearos here that would absolutely wreck everyone else......caseinpoint = settingsteel......get to know him bud.....again, Welcome!

Thanks for all the welcomes everyone....just watched Big Blue for the first time and bought my son the freediving manual, should get down to 420' by tomorrow afternoon...good luck and see you all soon!
