I just got my Alien back from the lovely ladies at prescriptiondivemasks. First - let me say they've done two masks for me - a matrix and an alien. In both case the new lenses in no way restrict the field of view - they do reduce volume :) and are perfect. They are just great to do business with.

Now that i've done some good diving with the Alien I have several comments.

First - it is quite comfortable and seals wonderfuly.

Second - it compresses very nicely with depth.

Third - it's field of view is not as good as the matrix - but is still quite good - and noticeably improves with compression

Fourth - Michael jackson was clearly the nose model for this mask! I mean these people are Italians! what could they be thinking! The nose pocket is plenty big - but what's with the upturn? No naturally occuring nose has an angle like that!

Fortunately the uber soft silicone pretty much keeps this from being much of a problem - but still I find myself moving the mask down - which restricts one of the strong points of the mask - the upward view.

Two thumbs up and a question mark on this one.

Heres a shot of the Distortiolis Nostrolatum - and a cool pic of a carp I got on my first dive in the big lake with my scripted alien

You have got to love the way this mask compresses :) However I have heard that the designers of the Alien used the Cressi "Super Pinochio" as a benchmark ;)

They do compress at depth but i don't like much this feature because the lenses start to touch my eyelash and this disturb my vision. To avoid this i had to equalize it with fair amount of air. I think this is due to its soft silicone and being frameless :hmm

i have the same "nasal problem" with the cressi-superocchio, i switched to sporasub samurai elite, great mask, great fit

Fondueset,

I wanted to get a prescription Alien, but since Omer didn't have them I went with an Asia. Is the prescriptiondivemask company an expensive route to go?

I recently bought an Omer Alien Mimetic (green version) to replace a Sphera that I lost a while ago. Great mask. Flexible, soft, frameless, compressable.

Only downside was going back to a glass lens with the usual size distortion issue - the first fish I shot was way smaller than I thought. I'm sure the brain will adapt in time however.
