Omer Cayman HF........

Has anybody handled or bought the new Omer Cayman HF? I heard some spearos talking about how great it is but one of them mentioned the shaft sits slightly above the barrel rail. It is still a top of the line gun that shoots like a laser and he loves it. I am just curious about this as I haven't had the pleasure of handling one yet.

 
Not bought it yet, but handled one (a 100cm HF) in my town shop.
I won't annoy you with a description that you can read from Omer website, so I'll just tell you my feeling and thoughts when I held it in my hands.
My first impression was the pleasantly light weight, very light, for such a "big" gun (the HF barrell is oval shaped and pretty wide), which makes me think of it as a smart balance of smooth tracking and adequate mass for low recoil and stability on shot. The barrel wall thickness is quite thin, thus the lightweight.
Second impression is the grip of the handle, which is really comfortable and ergonomic.
I can't say how it shoots. The rail issue you mentioned is no issue: on a european gun it is not necessary for the shaft to "touch" the rail, for ballistic reasons that it would be too long to discuss.
From visual observation, I don't think you can expect this gun to be particularily powerful, because the bands gave me the impression they might suffer some drag against the barrel during the shot. But again, this is no issue for us europeans: superpowerful guns are not in our philosophy.

I am thinking of buying an OMER hF or a Pathos gun
I have been advised towards the Pathos by some friends who have this gun (Pathos Open 82)

I still think that the OMER might be a good gun but cannot find any decent reviews by anyone who tried it in action

I bought the cayman HF 90 a couple of months ago. It is really axcellent to swim with. There is a lot of power in the shot - even though it is just a 90cm gun. Also it is real easy to handle in the water as it is perfectly balanced. Other danish fellow spearos i know of, have got the 100cm gun - I know they share my opinion.

Compared to 100cm guns I have tried I think you'll get the exact same power in the shots from the 90cm gun.

Personally I have dismounted the Reel and replaced it with a bungee, as we haven't got that many pelagic fish here in the danish waters that need to be reeled in. how ever I image that if you hunt for Dentex or AJ's in medsea you really need the reel...?

I have the Caman HF 100, and had a problem with the line release, but is has been fixed. The handle is great and you can handle the gun in the water for hours without cramps. Tracking is good.
I too took the real off and went for the bungee option and attached the float line. Fins it quicker to reload.
All in it is my favourite gun!
Yiannis, I do not know about the Pathos but you will not go wrong with the Omer.
 
I too bought a cayman HF. Have to say that I am stunned by its ease of use and accuracy. As others have said perfectly balanced in the water. Highly recommended.

I contacted Omer and they had a problem in production. It looks like the part that sits under the spear that locks the line release was too big and on my gun jammed. After contacting Omer they told me about the probelm and sent me the replacement parts (very quickly!). It was easy to replace and the gun works fine now.
Spaghetti mentioned he thought that there would be issue with power but I think that the gun is pretty powerful and accurate. Three fish with the first three shots is not bad!
I have also added a 16mm band when I am swimming in poor viz and I tried this a coupleof weeks ago. Three snapper and a small mullet
 
Hi, it seems like my gun has the same problem. Sometimes it doesnt release the line. Who did you contact for this problem. I live in california USA

Ive been using the Cayman Hf for bout 3months now and the best way to describe it is "DEADLY ACCURATE"....Ive only been in the spearfishing scene for about a year and i have 3 guns and i'd have to say that my HF is the "bread and butter gun"...One thing i do recommend is to replace the wishbone to dyneema as the articulated one makes too much noise...
